Mermaid Beach AEME Surf Life Saving Club — Restaurant in Gold Coast City

We visited Mermaid Beach Surf Life Saving Club today for lunch and were honestly blown away. Usually with surf clubs, you come for the ocean views and casual vibe — and accept that the food might be a bit of an afterthought. Not here.

My husband and I ordered the seafood chowder, which came beautifully presented with a grilled scallop in the half shell perched on top of the thick luscious soup paired with micro greens and two slices of grilled sourdough on the side — fresh, comforting, and full of flavour. We also had the satay chicken (with extra sauce on the side — trust me, you’ll want to drink it) and a small vermicelli salad for something light and fresh. The standout was the chicken surf and turf, served on the bone with creamy mash and a generous serve of seafood. Everything was cooked perfectly — juicy chicken, fresh veg, and nothing skimped on.

The atmosphere wasn’t anything fancy at lunchtime on a Friday — your classic surf club setup — but by the time we left, the place was buzzing with tradies finishing their shifts. The staff were genuinely warm and welcoming, which always makes a difference.

We’ll definitely be back — not just for the view, but because the food deserves it....

Writing to back up the review from Flynn Addicott, and response provided by the venue. I am the lady in question who apparently mistakenly said that there were more orders to come for the table and therefore the order was left open. This is totally untrue - I was never asked if mine was the final order or not, nor did I volunteer this information or enter into any conversation about this. This is either a mistake or a lie by the person taking the order. I understand that it was a busy night and mistakes happen, but the staff were rude and borderline aggressive throughout the night and even before questioning where our orders were. It started at the point of arriving when I questioned where the highchair was that I'd requested at the time of booking. My request was met with a sullen slamming down of a highchair, with no communication. Our treatment that night and the response to Flynn are rude and condescending - Flynn is a grown adult and completely entitled to speak the truth. This is the most disgusting food I have ever ever tasted. I vomited after eating from the specials menu.. snapper saddlefish . I have never ever experienced this before! Dean the manager offered electrolytes ( wacko) no refund! Do not put yourself at risk of food poisoning!

Cant believe the response from the manager. ( see below) . how rude. I have reported this establishment to the Department of health for food poisoning, they said they will investigate their kitchen. I received two no caller ID phone calls late yesterday , no text , no message, no ability to call back!
