Raw Squeeze Clontarf — Restaurant in Greater Brisbane

A mate and I decided to have lunch at Charlie's Raw Squeeze while in the neighbourhood.

We entered the small store front and were warmly greeted by several staff members. The lady serving us was friendly, polite and also explained the wrap fillings and treat options. Due to COVID precautions, we had to register via QR code, a simple and literally 60 second process.

When ordering, it dawned on us that there was a larger, neighbouring room we could enter. This was the dining area and, for want of a better term, grocery store. We grabbed a table and, while waiting for our meals, browsed the sizeable selection of plant based healthy items for sale. These ranged from vegetarian curry packs, to milk varieties, to sauces, to drinks and frozen meal options.

I had decided on a pea pattie & salad wrap (Eat A Rainbow) while my mate grabbed an Acai Bowl. I indulged and also bought two store-made treats: a Bounty and a Berry Ripe. To wash it all down, I purchased a bottle of kombucha from their large drinks and refrigerated products section.

Without question, we enjoyed every item we'd selected. The wrap was delicious, tasty and filling, while my friend gave the thumbs up to his Acai Bowl. My raw treats were very good and even the kombucha (not always a winner with me) was surprisingly tasty.

Prices ranged from average to above average but, on a whole, this was justified by the genuine quality and freshness.

Visited this location over the weekend and was unbelievably disappointed. I've been to other locations and have never had an issue, so perhaps it was an off day? I ordered the berry protein smoothie and the vegan cheese toastie. My partner ordered the choc banana smoothie and also a vegan cheese toastie. My order came out before his, as did the orders of every other person waiting (about 5 other people). He politely asked where his order was and it turns out it was sitting on the counter and they completely forgot to bring it out to him. My smoothie was really awful. It tasted like protein powder, berries, under-ripe green banana and water were blended together. Nothing else. It was very watery. Toastie was delicious though! My partner's smoothie was melted and extremely bitter. It also tasted as if water, under-ripe green banana and bitter cacao were blended. There was zero sweetness or creaminess to it. His toastie was cold because it had been sitting out for ages before they gave it to him. But taste was great.

Overall just very disappointing. 2 stars because the toasties were tasty but if it wasn't for those, I'd give 1 star.

I think the young staff need more training on how to make a smoothie. I can't express enough how bad the taste of those...

Mate squeeze this into your life, it's delicious, colourful, sweet and healthy. I was blown away by the vegan cakes, the array of options and just the overall presentation of the legendary acai bowls. Yes please to raw squeeze.

Update: I ordered the acai superfood bowl today. She read back to me acai superfood she thought I meant smoothie, me not knowing there's 2 acai superfood options didn't accentuate bowl. When she made it and I corrected the mistake she didn't handle it well, I said I'd pay for the smoothies as she already made and I felt bad. She charged me $9 on top for what I thought was going to be for the smoothies. She then comes out with two large bowls even though I wanted one small, no smoothies. It's a small thing but don't have the same names for different items or have the staff accentuate smoothie/bowl and although the acai bowls were sweet and amazing the bitterness and extra spice that came with the customer service was awful.
