Samson Fish Seafood — Restaurant in Greater Brisbane

We’ve been going here regularly since the day it first opened. In that time we have seen several changes of ownership but the atmosphere and the quality of the food has always been exceptional. Unfortunately, and like many other restaurants, the size of the meals has reduced considerably while the prices have soared. Back in January, I ordered flathead in breadcrumbs and was somewhat disappointed to be served exactly one and one half fillets and they were not all that big either. Last week a friend and I had lunch down there and again I ordered the same meal and was somewhat taken aback to find this time I received only one medium sized fillet of flathead. The salad was very poor consisting of a small heap of lettuce and two very small slices of tomato. The potato chips were 21 in total. This set me back just on $27.00! If the breadcrumbs were removed from the fillet, I doubt it would’ve gone much more than 100 grams. As residents in Raby Bay we have quite a group of neighbours and friends who no longer dine at Samsons owing to the ridiculously high prices versus the very small servings. We loved this place, I'm a super fan of eating fish and chips by the water and we all agreed, this place had the best fish and chips we've had in a long time... The location is great too because Samson's is right by the marina, it was the perfect way to have a really good meal, relax and enjoy some family time...

The 1st time we went was during a public holiday, it wasnt too busy, we had our puppy with us and asked the if it was ok to have our puppy with us outside... The owner Sam took us to a nice seat outside and turned on the fairy lights above our table, it totally lifted the ambience and made us feel so special...

We had a crumbed barra meal, a battered barramundi meal, kids fish & chips and kids nuggets & chips, the portion sizes are big (below photo doesn't do it justice), the fish tasted fresh, loved the batter it wasn't soggy or oily and was perfectly cooked...

This was a great place to just sit and watch the sun setting over the water while enjoying your fish and chips... And the whole area was really well lite up at night so it was an added bonus to be able to have a nice stroll around the marina after our amazing meal and so the overall experience was...

Really disappointed with this place. On arrival I looked at the fish offering at the counter and was astonished that they were allowed to serve that as fresh fish. As a keen recreational angler I know what fresh fish fillets look like and of the 12 or so options I could see 2 varieties that I would consider fresh. I ordered the fish and chips for me and my wife selecting the fish I knew was good to eat. $50 for 2 x Fish and Chips, 2 x Potato scallops and 2 bottles of water!? Damn that hurt! Lucky the view was nice. On the other hand my wife’s parents and brother all ordered the calamari and low and behold the next day all 3 are violently ill with food poising! Why aren’t I surprised? Because if you had have seen the appalling food standards in the window fridge you would never eat there again. I don’t know how this place hasn’t been shut down earlier. Will never go back again. The only reason I am posting this as bluntly as it’s put is to make sure everyone else chooses vigilantly if they go here to avoid...
