Latest Redlands Bayside News food review:
I RECENTLY had the pleasure of dining at Fiction Bar, and let me tell you, it was an experience that ticked all the boxes: delicious food, stellar drinks, and an ambiance that made you feel like you were on vacation. Situated right at the heart of Raby Bay Harbour, Fiction Bar offers a perfect blend of relaxed charm and upscale dining, making it an ideal spot for anything from casual drinks to a special night out. On the manager’s recommendation, I decided to try the Seaford Char Kway Teow, and I have to say—it was an absolute revelation. The dish was bursting with flavour, a combination of fresh seafood, tender noodles, and the right amount of spice. The dish was so satisfying that I almost didn’t want it to end. The portion was extremely generous too, leaving me feeling comfortably full but not overly stuffed. Now, no meal is complete without the perfect drink, and Fiction Bar certainly didn’t disappoint. I opted for a classic Aperol Spritz, and it was everything you could want from the iconic cocktail. Light, crisp, and refreshing, with that perfect balance of bitter and citrusy notes. It was a vibrant companion to my meal, and I couldn’t help but sip it slowly while taking in the spectacular views of the harbour. The drink was expertly made, and it was clear the bartenders take pride in their craft. Speaking of drinks, Fiction Bar’s cocktail menu is something to rave about. It’s not just your standard fare—there are a variety of creative concoctions to explore, each thoughtfully crafted with fresh ingredients and a flair for mixing unique flavours. Whether you’re in the mood for something light and refreshing, like my Aperol Spritz, or craving something a little more daring, there’s a cocktail to suit every taste and vibe. It’s the perfect way to elevate your dining experience. What I truly love about Fiction Bar, aside from the mouthwatering food and well-crafted drinks, is the relaxed yet lively atmosphere. The interior has a warm, inviting feel with a modern twist, and the views of the water only add to the sense of calm and enjoyment. The staff are always friendly and attentive, making sure that every need is met while still allowing you to unwind and take in the surroundings. Whether you’re stopping by for a laid-back meal, meeting friends for drinks, or even planning a special celebration, Fiction Bar checks all the boxes. I’ll be back to try more of their dishes and explore more of their cocktails. Highly recommend giving it a visit—you...
Read moreI came to have lunch on Wednesday the 20th of September and ordered a large 250 ml glass of Chardonnay. The wine was brought out and it looked like a regular 150ml. The ladies at the next table had their 2 glasses of wine delivered to their table and these were large glasses of wine 250 ml. I told them I had ordered the same and they said I had definitely received a 150 ml glass that they had seen before I took 2tiny sips because I wanted to wait for my food to arrive, I knew this so I talked to the new waitress and she said to tell the manager which I did. He did not offer to rectify the situation and said the 2 ladies drinks had been overpoured and I had taken more than a 50 ml sip which I hadn’t.He had not even been in the vicinity of the table. I have been a customer of Fiction for many years. I have had many family gatherings there and I have never had to make one complaint about the service food or drinks. I ate some of my lunch and ordered a 150ml glass of wine. I have always ordered a large Chardonnay or cocktails for myself and family. I was very disappointed to be treated like this as there was absolutely no customer service from the Duty Manager who I have always spoken to nicely since he first started working there, I do not blame the young waitress- she just needed guidance from the Manager. Another waitress brought me my second wine 150 ml and she couldn’t believe what was happening. I asked for a takeaway container and went over to pay my bill. I told the new waitress I was paying for my lunch of course and 2 150 ml glasses of wine and the manager came over and said to me You are never allowed back here ever again and that I had abused the waitress which I had not done . It was totally his lack of Customer skills. I had water and 2 150 ml glasses of wine and half my lunch. I have never been told by any Restaurant anywhere or Hotel here or overseas That I am not welcome back in my whole life. I have lived in Cleveland for 9 years brought up a family and been a Teacher for 42 years.I also have photos of the glasses of wine. I went to Southbank yesterday the 22nd of September and had a proper 250 ml glass of wine at the Jetty Restaurant with my lunch which I did not mind paying more for. Yours Sincerely...
Read moreWe decided to go for lunch as it had an amazing view of the waterfront. They had a big table and a few other diners as well as something going on up by the bar, so having worked in hospo we knew we would have a wait for the food. However, an hour of waiting and only being told 5 minutes before it came, that it would be out soon. Our table was completely ignored apart from that. Drinks took about 15 minutes to arrive and we sat with empty glasses for at least 15 minutes before we were offered a refill. The food arrived and half of our table were happy with their meals.. even if someone orders off your lunch menu, your chefs should still put effort into the meal. The bacon and beef cheeseburger was doused in bbq sauce, which is the only thing that gave it any flavour as the patty tasted like it was a home brand patty from the cheapest freezer section at the supermarket. The steak in the steak sandwich didn’t appear to have been rested long enough as the juice saturated the bread and it started falling apart. The bao was okay with its two small slices of meat in each one and bbq sauce. The parmigiana, the fish and the calamari were really good and they were thoroughly enjoyed. The sweet potato fries were fantastic. The drinks were really lovely, the iced tea looked great and the glass of wine was generous. However, maybe try having more staff on when you know you have bookings, have your chefs inject a bit more passion into what they do and upskill your wait staff as to how to pay attention to their patrons. We may not have spent as much as other patrons but I highly doubt we will be back; two of the people who had lovely meals are going back home overseas today and three of us who would have been able to provide repeat business had dud meals. Very unfortunate as it is a...
