We went wandering up to Hahndorf recently, to have a relaxed afternoon as you do there. We decided to go to Beerenberg Farm and Cafe, but were a little late for any strawberry picking. Wanting to get something to eat, we just relaxed and wandered the large cafe area and gift/souvenir shop. The info area is actually really informative and has an interactive display which children should enjoy. We purchased some lovely sounding jam and red currant jelly(which Iām still looking forward to!) They have some gourmet jams there, that to my knowledge arenāt readily available in Adelaide, such as Raspberry Violet. Yum š It smells like raspberries and violets in my mindās eye, too. Thereās a blueberry and pomegranate? I want to try next time too! Dining companion had the Brie and tomato croissant option for a late lunch (thatās usual for me!) She, who doesnāt really like gourmet cheeses, really enjoyed this⦠maybe the fact that it was melted, made the difference? I had the last Moroccan lamb pie. This somewhat resembled a larger pork pie differently, and was accompanied by a side salad with strawberries and something like a strawberry based dressing. That dressing was delicious. The pie meaty, a little heavy on the pastry, but thatās personal preference, however, I enjoyed it. Looking around, people were enjoying themselves, and there were a few different options for snacks or light meals - ice cream for the children and light meals like we had, to suit adult tastes too. It was a lovely afternoon adventure and outing, all in all. Weāre really enjoying our jam purchase and will be back soon to pick strawberries (and although Iām not a great fan, they were delicious in the salad) and for some different jams, relishes and sauces. You really canāt go wrong with a visit here. Itās just lovely, friendly and informative. You can learn so much about strawberries. Believe me. I want to return for the scones, jam...

Ā Ā Ā Read more5 of us girls (50ās & 60ās) visited the Beerenberg farm and cafe recently to pick strawberries and to try the cafe. This is THE place to go if you want beautiful, large red, delicious strawberries!! It will cost you $5 for a cardboard box for picking your strawberries. After picking the strawberries, the box is weighed and you pay by the kilo the going rate. At the time, we paid $10.95 a kilo. What a fun time we had out in the field picking and tasting our strawberries š - treat the family for a great outing, the kids will love it! On our return to the cafe, I had a strawberry ice cream, the rest had coffeeā¦š. The cafe was buzzing with people eating fabulous food. The menu is amazing with various types of pies with salads, crusty rolls and yummy desserts. We had booked a place in Hahndorf for lunch but wished we had stayed at the cafe. We will be back, this time to have lunch. There is also a shop section for buying all the Beerenberg jams, chutneys and sauces, etc plus other goodies. The staff were friendly and I would recommend going to Beerenberg for the fresh strawberries and also the yummy ice creamā¦.and the piesā¦and anything else that takes...
