We finally managed to have a proper meal at Bangkok Noi after a few missed attempts due to timing or closures—and it was absolutely worth the wait! Located in the heart of Hahndorf (a German town in the Adelaide Hills, for those who didn't know), this gem satisfied our unexpected craving for Thai food in the best way possible. Price is on the high side, but given its location - understandable.
The other half, who has tried Pad Thai at nearly every Thai restaurant across SA, NT, and VIC, was eager to compare. We ordered the Pad Thai Prawn, Crab (Apple) Salad, and Sticky Rice with Mango for dessert.
The first bite of the Pad Thai was a revelation—wow, just wow. We discovered something new: the original Pad Thai is sweet! This wasn’t a Westernised version; it was authentic, and it tasted phenomenal. The prawns were perfectly cooked, and the dish struck a delightful balance of textures and flavours.
The Crab Apple Salad was another standout. Despite its simple appearance, it was bursting with flavour—refreshing, tangy, and beautifully seasoned
To top it all off, the dessert stole our hearts. The Sticky Rice with Mango, served with a gorgeous blue-coloured rice, was both visually stunning and delicious. The warm, slightly sweet rice paired perfectly with the juicy mango.
Bangkok Noi delivered an authentic Thai experience, from the flavours to the presentation. We’re already planning our next visit to explore more...
Read moreI had ordered A tom yum soup Pad Thai chicken Duck salad Roti and chilli in fish sauce And a jasmine rice.
First came out the tom yum soup and roti. Next came the pad Thai.
Tom yum soup should really have come out with jasmine rice but there was no sign of it. The Pad Thai came with parsley instead of coriander which was strange. Pad Thai also came without peanuts and a lemon wedge which are both fundamental to the original pad Thai dish. The Pad Thai was bland and was lacking fish sauce which i was waiting for, so long i had to ask for it.
When it came, the chilli which was mixed in with the fish sauce was not cut properly with big chunks and pieces connecting, literally burnt my mouth. Maybe cut up the chilli into more thin and palatable pieces.
Then the duck salad came out and was left on our table. It was not duck salad, it was someone else’s dish. After I told the staff the dish was the wrong one, it was taken out to the correct table. Luckily our dish came out finally and it tasted decent.
Keep in mind that we were only 1 or 4 tables in the restaurant and it was not busy by restaurant standards. I could not understand why so many things were over looked. In the end i had saved tom yum and a bit of duck salad to have with my jasmine rice which i had to ASK for.
I was left frustrated and exhausted. It should not be the customers job to keep the orders and staff corrected, we should feel...
Read moreHaving dined here on several occasions, we were looking forward to a lovely meal. Sadly, this was not the case. Both dishes. were very disappointing. Small serve, tough chewy pork and soggy noodles in the Pad Thai. Flavour balance was definitely lacking. We didn’t complain at the time as we were sitting very close to the next table and did not want to spoil their evening which appeared to be a celebration of some kind. I did however attempt to contact them several times leaving a message asking them to call. Having received no call I tried again, finally speaking to one of the wait staff who promised to pass my feedback on to the chef. She said she expected he would give me a call. I have heard nothing and suffice it to say we won’t be going back. I would normally give somewhere a second chance but given their poor customer response that’s it for me. I hope you have a...
