EDIT: If I based my review on just my personal experience, it would be 1 star. However, I am using the information from everyone I went with to be fair. I didn’t believe 3 stars was a bad review, however the staff seem to because they sent repeated messages that feel slightly like emotional blackmail to the person that made the booking who then forwarded the messages to me.
This is my original review. Went as a big group with mixed results. I must just have been unlucky because out of the 10 people that went, I was one of the 2 disappointed. Everyone has delicious main dishes. Myself and 1 other had starters and asked for them to be brought out at the same time as the mains. They were brought out first. We then had to wait for 10 minutes before asking where our rice was, only for the server to be confused why we would want our rice with our curry starters. The satay sauce is salty and congealed. The salad had been salted also. The tikka masala had no sauce and the chicken tasted exactly like tandoori. No sauce and served on a sizzling hot plate which meant the onions were very burnt and so was the salad. Burnt lettuce isn’t tasty. The naan and roti were tasty, however the roti did come with a 50 cent piece thick charcoal piece stuck to it that needed to be chipped off. So I had a miserable experience, however most of my table had a lovely one. I would suggest not getting starters. Even if you are a small eater. Only the mains were tasty. The wait for service and food was very long. Considering they weren’t busy and you would assume that things like rice and sauces would already be cooked and ready to serve. The waitress was nice, but slow. However she has only just started working there.
EDIT to reply to the response.
An entree is usually just a smaller serve, so should be on the menu that it has no sauce or that it is available upon request. Seems a waste of food/salad if it is just to stop the chicken being burnt. (Which it didn’t end up doing anyway. )If that is the case, why even have it on a sizzler plate?
I have no issue with using charcoal to cook, it was just a minor annoyance that I had to chip some off. Not to mention if I hadn’t seen it and had taken a bite. Not sure what that would have done to my teeth.
For the most part, everyone had a wonderful experience so no shade to the restaurant. The wait for food was a bit long, but it’s fine if you aren’t in a rush or have a set...
Read moreAfter much speculation, we finally visited Mustard Seed, and it exceeded all our expectations. Unlike many Indian restaurants where curries often share a similar taste due to pre-made base sauces, Mustard Seed offered a delightful surprise. Each dish we tried had a distinct and unique flavor that left us thoroughly impressed.
We began our meal with the buffalo crispy cauliflower, which was a refreshing and flavorful alternative to traditional buffalo wings. This appetizer set the tone for the rest of our dining experience, showcasing the restaurant's ability to innovate while maintaining authenticity.
The Navratan Korma stood out with its subtle sweetness, embodying the true essence of this classic dish. However, the highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the Malabar fish curry. This dish was simply divine, and the chef graciously accommodated our request to include both fish and prawn, adding to its exceptional taste.
The dal makhani was another standout, rich with an array of spices that made every bite a pleasure. Complementing these dishes perfectly were the jeera rice and garlic naan, both fresh and flavorful, enhancing the overall experience of the meal.
What truly set Mustard Seed apart was the evident freshness of each dish, giving us the impression that everything was prepared just for us. This is a stark contrast to the often noticeable pre-made sauces found in other Indian restaurants.
Our compliments to the chef for such a memorable dining experience. Mustard Seed is a gem, offering authentic and distinctly flavored Indian cuisine that is a cut...
Read moreWhat a delightful experience. On a fancy street full of restaurants , this one is unique. Jess the lady who hosted was a pleasure to talk to and she also ensured that we have the right order depending upon my parents appetite. It is the sincerity and honesty that I need to applaud as she wasn’t getting us to order more but effectively.
The ambience of the restaurant is just right. We ordered a mini banquet for 2 as my parents wouldn’t eat a lot. The navratna korma and the rice was not only delicious but the quantity was also great.
I ordered a pina colada for them again superb. Apart from that ordered chicken tikka which was presented fab and again the quantity was commendable.
Cheese naan and Malai kofta was a feather in the cap. The malai kofta which is usually lighter yellow was a different brownish curry prep but the flavour was just so enchanting that I loved it.
I ordered my favourite Arancini balls n my, just perfectly melted and could feel each bite.
The service was fast and when met with a smile, it just becomes the best.
Loved being here and definitely would come back. Thanks Jess, you were wonderful. Kudos to the chef and other staff as everyone made us comfortable.
Feedback if any is the size of plate is quite small ( not food quantity) but literally...
