The food on other people's plates looked good - but after waiting 1.5 hours and not being served any of the food we ordered, we can only wonder what ours would have been like!
After waiting for an hour for two adult meals (a schnitzel and a wurst) and a kids meal (mac and cheese), we asked if the food would be coming out soon. We were told that it should be soon, but has taken so long because it has been very busy. We had noticed that it had actually gotten quieter since we'd been waiting and other tables who arrived after us were receiving their food.
Meanwhile our 3-year-old was getting impatient for her food, but luckily was super well behaved for once! Likewise we were lucky our 6-month-old was happy to just sit and wait.
We asked again 15 mins later and were told our food were the next ones coming out. When we saw other tables being served their food and still hadn't seen any trace of ours we asked again 15 mins later, only to be told that it would be another 5 mins. At that stage we were not willing to wait any longer, especially as I wasn't sure if they had even started preparing our food, so we paid for our drinks and left - despite the manager trying to guilt us into waiting another 5 mins so our child could eat at least. I mean come on, we'd already had her waiting an hour and a half!
Wait staff were nice, but after being served drinks initially we were only approached once in the next 1.5 hours to see if we needed anything else.
Also, be aware that there is only one toilet and it was gross - the floor mat looked about 30 years old. And no hand towels, which I saw on a previous review too.
We left and headed down the road where we had some burgers and mac & cheese that came out quickly and were yummy. THAT cafe will be getting the good review we could have given German Spoon, but they lost us as customers and we won't be returning. So disappointing that we could have used the wasted time exploring Hahndorf instead. I would recommend giving German Spoon a miss and instead trying one of the other great establishments...
Read moreMy wife and I took our young grandson here tonight. The restaurant looked pleasant enough from the outside, with the mood set by a German busker playing German tunes on his accordian near the entrance. We were seated inside by a waitress, far back corner, well away from any atmosphere and next to (what my wife, when she looked directly to her left, would soon find out to be) the door leading to the toilet. We had placed our order for food and drinks as soon as we were seated, as we had already chosen from the menu board outside. And we waited ......... 20 minutes later I got up to ask if we could at least have our drinks, stating that I understood we might have to wait for the food. Noone had our order. The barman (owner?) apologetically shoved a bottle of water in my hand saying "Take this while we sort out your order." I pointed to our waiter who appeared, that he had taken the order. He had even repeated our order back to us when he took it. I took the bottle of water back to my wife, we deliberated for a few minutes more before deciding to leave. She didn't appear too comfortable anyway, with people brushing past her chair to and from theirs 1's and 2's. As we left, we could still hear the staff trying to work out what our order was. The place was busy, but not packed. Our bill would have been $100.00 for a 500mL lager, 1 apple juice, a share plate for 2 and a kids meal. Money we spent elsewhere. Why seat us next to the toilet when you had tables available elsewhere? Is it because my wife is Asian or because we had a young boy with us? How could the waiter lose our order as he had to go past both the counter and the bar? We won't...
Read moreReasonably pricey for what it is. We arrived 10 minutes late, as we had trouble finding parking. We were greeted with the information that they were about to give our table away - one could solve this problem in a customer-friendly manner - here is a hint: they had our phone number. The German Vienna sausage did not resemble what I associate with that sausage, I'm not fussy, but did not end up eating that sausage. Pappardelle was served without a spoon (go figure). Table water came only on request after the other drinks arrived. The provision of water glasses suggested that this was something that was supposed to happen by itself. It was left to us to ask other patrons to to turn down the volume on their child's device. We were still in the process of sitting down when we were asked whether we were ready to order only then to wait a good while before being approached again. Had to ask for tomato sauce for chips with Schnitzel. Drinks brought and put just in front of the first person - ask what belongs to who? On leaving (4 non-spectacular meals and 4 drinks $110), I was asked whether I enjoyed my meal. The only response to my observations was the return of my change. Decoration bland and lack-luster, no atmosphere, staff lacked enthusiasm. Food ok. Disappointing Father's Day outing. I am editing this, as I have just had a look at other people's feedback - looks as though we were not the only ones to have had a disappointing experience. I kept thinking, I hope the owners read some of this for pointers - they do - and give defensive, CAPITALISED responses. How childish! Will definitely...
