I went to this restaurant with my mum, the service of the staff was terrible. The owner was rude, defensive and most of all verbally aggressive and was up in my mum’s face yelling at her. We ordered a few dishes, one was a seafood basket, one of the workers told my mum that it was $15. When we got the bill, it didn’t add up to me. However, my mum paid. After she had paid, I told her to calculate it. And we realised we had been over charged. My mum and I went and just wanted to make sure it wasn’t a mistake and to ask how come we were charged $23 for the seafood basket. My mum didn’t want a refund, but she just was just curious. She spoke to the owner’s wife. She explained $15 was for take away and dining in was $23. My mum understood but she just mentioned that the other staff that was working told her it was $15 and just to make sure that the staff are aware so they don’t mislead other customers with wrong information. As soon she said that, the male owner, came and started disagreeing and making statements such as “ you have to pay your bills” my mum replied saying “ I have already paid and I am not asking for a refund” then he said “ don’t come to eat if you can’t afford it, get out of my store” my mum again explained “ I just want to know for next time I eat I undertasn the difference of pricing “ he then said “ there will not be a next time, I don’t need you “ he was all up in my mums face repeating things such as “ you can’t afford to eat here” I then but in and said “ she is not asking for a refund, all she did was ask about the price which is fair enough for a customer” he just started yelling on top of me telling me to “ get out “ yelling and screaming. He then said “ you don’t look someone who can afford this, pay your bills” even thought we had already paid. His wife hyping him further.

Worst customer service. The only thing he didn’t do is physically attack. He was right up in my mums face. I was so scared. All the staff weren’t friendly, the wife instead of calming him down, kept hyping him up. My baby brother had to watch this too.

I’ve never left a review ever, hopefully this will help someone from getting treated the way we did. I went through all the reviews and it seems a lot of customers have been dealt rudely by the staff and owner, he must get a lot of complaints from customer and must be fed up with resulting in a...

Went here for breakfast with friends. What a disaster! Ordered 2 flat white coffees, hot chocolate and milk shake with meals. We saw girl make our coffee then bring it to our table herself. She looked at me and said "Latte?" I said I ordered a flat white and she said "that's what this is". Then looked at other person who ordered coffee and said "Latte?" He said " No. I ordered a double shot flat white". Again she said "that's what this is". When we tasted the coffees both were cold. Not even luke warm. They offered to warm them up. I said no thanks as I didn't want microwaved coffee and didn't drink it. What chance have you got if person making coffee doesn't know what she has made? My pancakes arrived and I could smell they were burnt. Checked underside of first one and it was badly burnt. Checked other two and both of those were badly burnt as well. Put on plate burnt side down hoping customer doesn't notice. They were very small and should have been called pikelets not pancakes. VERY expensive for what I got and didn't eat them and returned them to kitchen.(First time I have ever returned a meal to a kitchen). Two other meals had arrived as well. Small serve of scrambled eggs for $16. Expensive for what you got. They were dry and no garnish to make it look appealing, and a ham and cheese croissant (can't screw that up). After a while we asked about fourth order of food. It was only a plain almond croissant and hot chocolate. Told it would come soon. After others had finished cooked meals fourth order still had not arrived. Asked again and still had to wait as we watched them serving people for takeaway before people in cafe. By the time almond croissant and hot chocolate arrived eveyone else had finished. No one even apologised or spoke to us re problems. We are locals in the area and eat frequently at Hillarys boat harbour. Never at...

Booked a table here for a birthday mid week lunch based on a 5 spoon review we read in a newspaper (Gave a go News or something). Arrived and just given a nondescript table in an average location so spoke to hostess about the booking. She then did actually look and offered us a 6 setting table with a view which was shown as reserved but not for us. We sat down then shown to another smaller table after a few minutes when the previous guests left. service was provided by a young lady who was obviously very inexperienced but we eventually got the orders sorted. The prices seemed high and we ended up ordering some of their specials and taking advantage of their free wine with lunch offer. The food was average and not deserving of the high prices being asked. The special prices with the free wine were about what we would expect to pay normally for the food we had for mains. We shared a garlic cheese toast for entrée which was essentially 2 slices of warm bread with melted cheese. Could not discern any taste of garlic. Paid $9 for three prawns in a garlic sauce. Really! The venue was very cold and no heating provided in the middle of winter. My curry special was just ok and only came with a very small portion of rice which was not enough to go with the curry provided. Partner had Barramundi special which was small portion but was nice. Salad that came out was limp and some spilt so a fresh replacement was provided to their credit. The first lit should never have made it out of the kitchen let alone on the plate though. Our recommendation is just go if you intend to order specials and free wine with lunch for an...

This space used to be known as "Zeno's". Zeno's was a nice family restaurant. The Purple Goat, on the other hand... I don't know what it's trying to be. It's a beautiful setting with contemporary decor, and a spectacular view. The food, on the other hand, leaves much to be desired. I ordered the "All meats..." pizza. The chicken was over-seasoned, the pepperoni was, well... pepperoni, and the sliced ham (which was actually meant to be bacon, according to the menu) was lazily spread on to the pizza surface. The menu described the pizza with a tipping of rocket. No rocket to be seen. I found the presentation of the dish to be lacklustre overall (see picture for reference). This dish was not even aesthetically pleasing. A diner eats with their eyes first. The pizza base: undercooked, doughy, and dripping with oil. My kids' meals: the chicken schnitzel was rubbery. The chicken nuggets were fortunately flavoursome. My son's tempura calamari: tasty but perhaps too liberally battered. The calamari itself, however, was cooked almost to perfection. My father ordered the linguini marinara. Not a bad looking dish and by my father's account it was tasty. It's a pity though that two out of the five mussels he was served in the dish were missing the mussel "meat". No sign of then in amongst the strands of pasta ; just two empty shells to taunt taste buds. For now I'm giving this place two stars. I won't return until I'm confident standards have lifted.

Purple Goat is a local institution with Elizabeth and Jurgen. The Burmese Chilli chicken has been a staple of the menu for at least 15 years. If you haven’t tried it, it’s worth popping in for. Took my fussbot teenager to dinner. We were seated and our order taken quickly. My daughter had the Margarita pizza (which she happily turned into a cheese flavoured bread stick and a pile of cheesy slime as she often does) and I had the seafood pasta. We enjoyed both our meals. Had a bit of a laugh with the neighbouring table laughing at the robot waiter get stuck trying to navigate the room with hot meals and needing assistance. It even had a sad face on his console. The addition of the robot is a bit of a downer - though efficient, it’s not an indicator that premium service is on offer. Anything at Hillarys has a tourist surcharge - but the extra cost is generally worth it as you can always walk off your food in a generally safe and colourful setting. Tonight had a big colourful animal display around the Marina. 4 Yummies.

Nice place for a casual sit down meal with friendly table service. Menu has a good range including a kid's menu. I had the reef & beef which was a good size serve, done medium to my satisfaction. The creamy garlic sauce that the prawns were served in was a delight. Miniature serve of salad on the side. My wife was hankering for a good burger and it looked great - although she found the meat a tad underdone for her taste. She enjoyed her chips dipped in my sauce, thankfully there was sufficient quantity for both of us to enjoy. The menu is probably just a tad on the expensive side for what you get. The food and drinks were delivered by robot which was a bit of a gimmick leading to a bit of discussion about "robots taking our kid's jobs". But the human staff were around to make sure we were happy. During daylight hours the view out on the water probably looks great; at night time the reflection means you can't see outside much at all. Would like to return later to try some of the other specialties on the menu.
