Similar to most people we’ve heard wonderful reviews of Peppina, unfortunately we were disappointed by our choice of venue for the evening.
TLDR: The food is ok and needs more time given to determine the appropriate level of seasoning to enhance the dishes. This level of detail needs to be carried through the restaurant to ensure a high level of consistent service throughout the seating periods.
Greeting was very good and initial service contact was good with the staff being quite friendly. Drinks didn’t take long to arrive after ordering and the waiters run down of the menu for dietary needs (pregnant) was good. Entrees arrived and just as we started to squeeze the lemon on the waitress quickly comes over to swap the scallops for more well done ones. The limited attention to detail was also noted with the serving of scallops with the preparation, however flavour was adequate, some seasoning would have elevated the dish to be overall good. The waiter asked if we had received our other entree the meatballs, being attentive it should have been easy to see that it was not on the table. This was quickly rectified and the meatballs arrived and were good. We received our mains (gnocchi and the market lamb which was a lamb rack). The meals were again ok, some cracked pepper and a little bit more seasoning would have again elevated these dishes as there was very little depth of flavour in either dish. The staff service was almost absent as we had the empty main dishes on the table for some time and could only gain attention by flagging someone down. The attention to detail again was lacking when both of our water glasses were empty and needed to ask for a refill, otherwise throughout the night they were kept reasonably full. Dessert was a real disappointment amongst the cascading amount of things throughout the night. One staff member was great in advising which dessert or part thereof to avoid (alcohol or raw egg) for the dietary requirements. We decided on the tiramisu and the lemon sorbet but without the meringue. The desserts came out and the sorbet had meringue…the waiter said it was cooked so the chef put it on. Unfortunately we really wish they respected our request and left it off as it was placed on the sorbet and torched so it wasn’t cooked, my wife ate around it, besides that, the desserts were really nice and had a nice flavour to them. Other areas the attentiveness should be carried through to is the menu, it needs someone with an eye for detail to correct a few formatting mistakes that take away from the more eloquent dining establishment Peppina...

Situated only walking distance from Hobart's waterfront and Salamanca place, you will find the the trendy new Italian restaurant Peppina headed by superchef Massimo Mele.
Peppina is part of the new luxury 5 star hotel The Tasman Hobart (which is apart of the Marriott group) It looks absolutely incredible, & one place we hope to stay in next time we visit!
As we walked into the restaurant, we were immediately impressed! The kitchen was bright, open and you could see all of the food being prepared fresh. The restaurant itself was much larger than I expected; very easy on the eye- spacious, warm and inviting.
They have a great wine list, and our sommelier was able to recommend a beautiful chardonnay to go with our meals.
Our entrees were fantastic, but the main event was the pasta hands down🙏
I had the - Ricotta Cavatelli Pancetta, broccoletti, lemon, chilli, straciatella. I don't think I stopped saying "Omg yum!" 🤣 The flavours were INCREDIBLE! I just can't get over how delicious this was!
Jad had the Paccheri pasta which I managed to sneak a bite of! Woow! The large pieces of paccheri pasta was phenomenal- it was chewy, and the “Genovese” slow cooked wagyu shin & pork belly, & onion ragu had explosions of yumminess🤤
So glad we spent our last night in Hobart here- it is now one of our fave restaurants and we will definitely be back!
Thank you to all of the...
