Visiting from Melbourne and decided to eat at Rin because of the reviews. Unfortunately the experience didn't live up to 4.6 stars for our dinner experience.
They missed a main dish from our order, so we were left with one mains Udon noodle dish served for my partner only. The waitress did not ask us if that was all we had ordered, so we assumed the Bento Box I had ordered was just a little late. 10 minutes later still no check in with the staff so we asked where the Bento Box was.
The waitress informed us that she had not written down any Bento Box. When it eventually came out, with my partner practically finished eating, the sushi and sashimi in the Bento Box was decent. The avocado in the rolls wasn't fresh, the scallop sashimi seemed like it was a little seared at the bottom, and finally the tempura was lacking. Think onion rings with vegetables all thrown together into the deep fryer at once and they all get stuck together. It ends up to be a very oily mouthfull when eaten.
Strange for the waitress to not question a couple who are having only one main meal between two people at DINNER time, or repeat the order. Or one person sitting there watching the other person eat for 10 minutes.
When we got up to pay, the lady who served the late Bento Box to our table was taking payment. The original waitress also informed her that she had missed an order but she asked us how everything was and pretended like nothing had happened. We let her know the Bento Box was not great but she laughed it off.
On the upside, the seaweed salad and tobiko nigiri was nice and they also got the Udon...
Read moreThis used to be one of our favorite Japanese restaurants, but our most recent visit was truly disappointing. The quality of the food has noticeably declined, and the ingredients felt sparse and unclear. We ordered the sumiso ae for $15, only to receive a small bowl of seaweed with just two shrimp and two thin slices of octopus—a far cry from the generous and delicious version we used to enjoy.
Even more surprising was the chicken karaage. Instead of the expected bite-sized pieces, the dish came in thin slices of chicken, which lacked the juicy, tender texture we were anticipating. To make matters worse, it was served without mayonnaise. We initially thought it was an oversight—but we were then told that we would need to pay an extra $2 for it. It’s hard to understand why a dish would be served without its essential condiment only to upsell a “special mayonnaise.” That would be like going to a burger restaurant and being served a plain, dry burger—unless you pay extra for sauce. It just doesn’t make sense.
The staff was ok. At first a girl gave us the wrong order, we found out and another lady came and helped us change it right away. But overall, very disappointing,...
Read moreHad an amazing dinner! We were greeted as we enter the doors. There were 3 sacks of rice by the entrance, not really too fussy but not a good first impression for some people, it will be great if it can be cleared out before start of service. We were led to our table well and welcomed nicely.
We ordered Ramen Teishoku, Beef Yakiniku Don and their local hot Japanese green tea.
The green tea was great served in a small kettle like pottery container, kept it nice and hot. With the mellow music it feels like we were having dinner in a relaxed manner.
Ramen Teishoku was awesome but for some reason it lacked something, noodles were nice… its Chashu maybe… or deeper flavour, tonkotsu broth… chicken katsu servings are alright but might be better with bit increased of servings, gyoza was great, number of servings is just right, the salad is also nice but will need a bit more of creamy sesame dressing.
Had a taste and finished the serving of Beef Yakiniku Don, it was great! Better than I expected, it was tasty and just the kind of beef Don flavour I was looking forward to have.
God bless this restaurant, may it continue...
