We went in for dinner last night without booking, and they were understaffed so we were warned that it would take longer than normal for our food to come out. We still decided to go ahead with it, and it was the best decision that we’ve made! The food didn’t even take long to come! We’ve ordered the clams in white wine for starter, and it was simple but amazingly flavorful! Especially when you dip the bread into the broth, it’s just heavenly! However, the clam meat was a bit small, possibly due to over-cooking? Anyway, the flavor was just superb! 👍 We had the 300g sirloin steak and the marinara pasta as our mains, and they were done very well! The steak was so tender when cooked medium-well, and the side of potato was crunchy outside and soft inside. For the seafood pasta, it was well mixed with all flavors from the prawns, fish, and clams! Especially the prawns were cooked perfectly, very plump and fresh! No any fault to the mains except I wish I had more 🤪 For the dessert, we ordered a tiramisu to share. I have never been a big fan of tiramisu or any sweet, but I decided to give it a try since all dishes so far have been great! And of course, the tiramisu was tasty and balanced without overpowering with either the coffee and sweetness. It was a great choice to finish the night with the tiramisu. Overall, the experience was fantastic with great food! Strongly recommended and make sure to book ahead! Forget to mention, the service was great as well 👍👍👍

Firstly I don’t know how this restaurant got 4.6 stars on google, extremely disappointing and overrated and a waste of my hard earned $85…!!!! DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME. We only booked here because of good reviews, well it was either a different chef ( this was a Friday night btw) or they had NO taste buds at all !!!! My wife ordered the duck breast , which was only mediocre, well done on a bed of plain white rice and a basic side salad with a side of plum sauce. It was ok , nothing special…… I ordered the Moroccan lamb , which I think were 3 lamb chops that had been murdered on the grill or bbq and burnt to a cinder , tough and fatty and chewy ( I couldn’t eat it , a few mouthfuls was all I could stomach) served with a fair potato scallop, bok choy , broccolini and a few snow peas, also a side of nim jam dipping sauce….. wierd as…. Moroccan and thai together!!! To be fair the waitress/ owner did refund half the cost of the lamb dish. We didn’t bother with deserts as didn’t want to waste any more money…… Sad to say this was supposed to be the best restaurant in Kalbarri, but was far from it. !!! Ramsay would have a field day…….. The local bakery tho was excellent…….

This is a nice restaurant in Kalbarri. We dined during midweek as walk-in and found the place nearly full up. Just a couple tables available so might be worth making reservations if you want to ensure seating during intended evening of visitation. On the occasion, we were served a very good order of lamb chops that were grilled perfectly, lamb succulent and nicely flavoured with spices. Served with veg and mash, this was a really nice dinner. The fried grilled snapper was also pretty good. Served with salad and chips, this meal was enjoyed as well. Service was friendly and as timely as possible on a busy night. Prices higher than other restaurants we tried in Kalbarri but at fair price point considering the generally better quality of the dishes served & dining environs. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Upstairs and would be glad to eat here again when next in Kalbarri.

As a group of 4 adults and a child we went to this restaurant for a dinner seating,2 of us had been to the establishment prior and had started how good the food was on the previous visit. We were shown to our seats and placed our order of drinks and food, unfortunately this was the only time we were offered drinks in our sitting, had we had known we would have placed more drinks at the time. We ordered a seafood platter with extra dishes to share between us. The food arrived, and to be honest the guys was delicious and presented well. The seafood platter was described including 4 oysters, unfortunately these were not on the platter so at the earliest opportunity we pointed this out to the waitress who informed us they were coming. Halfway through eating the meal, and so no oysters we alerted the manageress to the lack of oysters, again we Wye told they were on there way. As we fondue the meal and so no oysters in sight with no explanation forthcoming we thought we would ask for a dessert for our child inplace of the missing food item. The manageress said no problem, though so no apology or explanation for the missing oysters. After 15 minutes of no cheesecake we left the table to pay. Charged full price for platter though it was missing items and no apolgy or explanation. When asked how our dining experience was and us explaining the issues with missing food, being charged full price, no drink orders.etc etc..we were met with a oh and smile, no apolgy,no rectifying the issue,no taking money off bill.......and no oysters! A further complaint and a takeaway box was produced with an upside down slop of cheesecake!

Good food but Fawlty towers...

We booked for dinner and had such a brilliant evening. We were impressed from the beginning of the process when we left a message to book for dinner. The owner (Tala) actually called us back - such customer service unheard of as far as our experience goes in WA. We were greeted warmly and seated at one of the many tables with a view out over the bay. The decor is smart, the mood music well chosen, so many details like that impressed us. The wine list had some good choices, and almost everything by the glass, so you can have a little taste if buying a bottle. We had an excellent Shiraz Tempranillo from the Clare. A superb wine. The menu aims and delivers on simple food cooked with fresh, quality ingredients. We had entrees of various dips with olives and Shark Bay skewered king prawns. Both were excellent. Mains of crayfish tail and pork ribs which were accompanied by a delicious salads. These mains were just awesome. Cooked to perfection. We have eaten in some great places round the world, but this ranks up there with some of the best food we have ever eaten. So well chosen and cooked. Tala gave us some background on her business and where she sources her ingredients from which was really interesting. Her passion for delivering an outstanding dining experience came through. What a great assett for...
