We have a holiday house in Kalbarri and make it that we go to the pub for dinner every time because of how good it used to be When I walked up to the menu board a lot of the menu had the prices removed becase they were not serving those meals After looking at the outrageous prices for pub grub I decided on one of the cheapest mead parmy chips and salad As soon as I saw my meal it looked sub par and the serving was small for $27 but stupid me didn't say anything then The meal came out very quickly pointing to the fact it was not freshly cooked The parmy edges were dried out, and the bottom was slightly burned and the cheese was brown again indicating it was sat in a warmer for some time The salad was one leaf of lettuce, one slice of cucumber, one slice of tomato and a few pieces of very very fine, julienne carrot which had obviously been prepared long time before The chips were obviously the cheapest frozen French fries that were very brown bordering on burnt and oil dripping off them and a very small serving I had a few slices off the parmy and when I realised just how bad it was ( very bland and tasteless ) I took it back to the counter I pointed it out to the girl taking orders only to be met with a blank stare and shrug of the shoulders No offer of a replacement or offer another type of dish which if offered I would have paid extra for
This is after my last time there where the meal was again average but thought it just may have been a bad night Unfortunately I was wrong I felt so totally ripped off to pay $27 for such a terrible meal I have tried to email the pub to voice my total dissatisfaction in the meal and the staff attitude, but you cannot email them I hope the licencee sees this and responds Maybe stop hiring backpackers that don't give a crap for a start or at least have your chef actually look what's being sent out It's totally disgusting and a bad reflection on a town I love Worst mistake wasn't taking any pictures but honestly, I was just so angry about how bad it was and total lack of empathy by staff I didn't even think about doing it so...
Read moreMy partner and I were recently in Kalbarri over the Christmas holidays. On our first night we thought we would treat ourselves to a pub meal and save the cooking for later in the trip. I ordered the fishermans basket. What I received was anything but. I was served some overcooked seafood smothered in a soy sauce, and I mean smothered. This was not what I expected and quite revolting to be honest. There was nothing on the menu that stated it came with soy sauce, and one would assume a fisherman's basket is pretty much some fried fish with grilled squid etc. Rather standard. If you are going to create your own version make sure you put this in the menu. I returned the dish to the kitchen, and asked for another serve but without the sauce, only to be returned what looks like the exact same plate with a tiny bit of the sauce drained off. It was completely inedible. Salty seafood with salty sauce is just not a good combo. My partner then took it back for a second time, and asked for a refund. To top of this experience the girl who served us was extremely rude and miserable and I overhead two of the female bar staff talking in the bathroom about how cool it is to do drugs especially when you are at work. Avoid eating here at all costs. Clearly their staff need better training.
We then went over to Giglai Tavern for some chips as I was starving after the somewhat 7 hour drive. Thank god they were able to accommodate us even when their kitchen was closing. We then only went to Gilgai's for the remainder of...
Read moreOn our trip to Kalbarri we stopped in for a drink and somewhere to get some food...the pub was the obvious choice! On first impression the venue was decent, lots of people enjoying their days and drinks, there was a small play area for the children, and dogs were seemingly permitted.
Within the first few sips of our drinks, one of the bar staff came out to clear glasses, and very rudely told us to move as we were smoking...I pointed out that there were no no smoking signs and she replied âthere is a designated smoking area over thereâ ...with no clear directions of where âover thereâ might be.
However, it didnât matter as the conversation brought her attention to the 2kg chihuahua asleep in my lap (on lead) and we were subsequently (and very rudely) told that dogs arenât allowed and we had to leave. Mind you, thereâs a big dog sat on the plants in the corner and another wandering around without lead or owner.
Her reply was that she doesnât make the rules.
Pretty disappointing to be fair. A tourist destination where people stay with their pets more often than not and we were asked to leave.
Wouldnât have been such an issue if the other 2 dog owners were asked to leave also.
A local we got chatting with later in the day said it was probably a blessing in disguise as the food...
