If you like a joke and have a laugh with a side of comedy with your cuisine, look no further than this place, though not quite in the way you'd expect.
Treat it like a meal with a journey through the stages of grief, starting with eager anticipation and ending with soul-crushing disappointment as you open the pack at home and start questioning all of your life decisions.
Splurged $70 on a so-called “family pack” (presumably for a family of sparrows) to feed four kids. What we received was something between a prank and a war crime on food supply.
The squid rings were deep-fried into oblivion so dark and crispy it can be double as a ninja star, a fully functional self-defence weapon to stop the seagulls stealing your food. The chips? Enough for maybe two children, or one really enthusiastic seagull swooping from the skies. As for the dim sims, well... I’ve seen rocks in the Simpson desert with more moisture. Honestly, I did consider donating them to a museum as fossils.
And the fish? Imagine fish-flavoured chewing gum that's been left in the sun for a month. It’s that chewy, that dry. That... tragic.
After seeing the full horror and doing some investigation (scrolling through the reviews of this joint with regret on my life choices to buy this), I finally understood what has happened. Naturally, I blamed my wife, since she was the one who suggested this place "for the kids" for quick dinner plans. So, I offered her up as a human sacrifice to the gods of extremely bad takeaway, in the hope they spare us from ever repeating the same...
Read moreAbsolutely disgraceful!!! First I would like to mention the rude encounter I witnessed from the cook to the very lovely elder couple asking for some salt and vinegar. The cooks attitude was like nothing I have witnessed before. Rolled eyes, rude, frustrated, obnoxious and was not helpful at all in supplying the lovely couple with what they kindly asked for. "If you don't like it I'll give ya your money back" were one of the many rude remarks replied back to the elderly couple. I am a big foodie and love my seafood. I was asking a few questions about catch of the day, freshness... etc and it seemed I was more of an annoyance than anything with blunt one word replies from the server, I paused with my questions and made my order as I also didn't want to be yelled at. Such an uncomfortable experience. In total my order came to $60 and with the portion sizes I received, I was very disappointed. Unsalted, very small fish sizes, cooked in old burnt oil, prawn with the texture of well done steak and a fish and chip shop that has no tartare sauce? Never heard of it There is no excuse to treat customers so rudely especially with a lot of tourists that...
Read moreI have been going to Kalbarri Fish N Chips since I was a kid when we make our annual trip up. It would always be our go to as its was more affordable/bigger portions then other places. Come up this year to see new interior so I gather new owners and ordered 4 people worth of chips, shark, 5 squid rings and one pineapple fritter. This almost cost me $80! For Shark aswell. The only thing that saved it was at least the quality of the food was good and the squid rings were amazing. The chips and fish portions were incredibly small and the batter could have used some seasoning at least. They need to go back to using thick cut chips as the ones we got were too thin and had dried out. I understand that things can be pricey up there (as i could tell from the prices in the IGA) but this has been the case for years. I think because of all the places being closed due to the recent cyclone they know they can get away with ripping people off cause we don't have much choice. Really...
