We decided to have a look a bit further out for family brunch options. Used google, searching star ratings, and came across this very highly rated cafe with some great reviews and pictures of delicious food. Talked my wife into the drive, got the three kids dressed and ready, then off we go for a new experience.
Arriving down a driveway lined with business garages, I could tell this was going to be a very cool location, and I was not wrong. Entering the premises was a wow moment, high ceilings polished floor, very industrial feel. The staff were engaged and welcomed us immediately, got us a table water, and asked if we wanted to order drinks first, you know... the service you expect from a top rated place.
So we're is the punch line. Why 3 stars? Because all the other stuff that goes into creating an experience can be lost with the food, and especially with foodies. I could see from previous reviews that they do make some delicious food and maybe on other seasonal menus, but in my opinion, the day we went the menu didn't create huge amounts of excitement.
One of my children wanted the eggs benedict, but it had already sold out, so he settled for the pancake stack the same as his two brothers. My wife ordered the French toast, and I ordered as I usually do in the situations where I find it difficult to choose, went with the most expensive meal on the manu, the cevapi.
Starting with the good, the pancakes, I could not fault. Big, fluffy, and well portioned 9/10 a very good example of what pancakes should be.
The other two meals, in my opinion, did not meet the expectations of such a highly rated establishment.
The French toast was dry and didn't feel well balanced, it required more development. We added some of the maple syrup from the pancakes, and it helped a little. The Stracciatella cheese was a nice touch, but the meal needed more of it to be balanced. The toffee on top was inedible with the meal as it stuck to your teeth, it added little apart from aesthetics. Overall, the meal was on the small side for the cost 5.5/10
The Serb Sausage Sizzle also missed the mark, it could have been so much more. Plating lacked impact and felt more like it was chucked on the plate then free-form plating. The cevapi were a little dry, needed more fat in the mince. The caramelised onion had great flavour but again, the quantity to the other elements was not enough to balance. I can't put my finger on the exact problem, I was just underwhelmed with my choice and wished it had the wow factor I expected 5/10.
Unfortunately for this establishment I dine and review with my family of 5, that means $150 plus for a meal, and when going out is expensive you have one chance to grab our attention to receive repeat business. In this case and with the current menu we will continue on and try...
Read moreSeveral things bugged me during my visit. Tried to call the day b4 & the am of our visit to advise numbers had reduced by 8 & kept needing to leave msgs. Get there and there's a man serving, another polishing a coffee machine item to death whilst chatting to a customer, and another man quietly working away @ something. We waited and waited and not 1 of them acknowledged us. I said "Is there anyone here to seat us?" I could have been on Mars, not a twitch our way. Later on my 2nd repeat, a young girl rushed to us and apologised for the delay & meant it! All good. Then she said table for 12? I said no which was when I got the look that so many young girls give us these days. Her whole attitude changed even though I explained that I had rung twice. We, (avg age 80+) were offered an outside table or an indoor table. As it was a really cold morning, we chose indoors but the door to outside was open and blowing a draft. Think Seniors, think old aching bones, think close door (there was no-one outside). The waitress that looked after us was great. 2 of us received their banana bread and they ate that. Then our coffees eventually came, weak & Luke warm. When the lively waitress asked if everything was OK I replied that 2 of us were still waiting on our food. Funnily enough she got them straight away (1 cooked). When you have a group of people, you should be serving them altogether not 30mins apart. There was only 3 types of sweets, cheesecake(x2), muffins (x2), brownies (x1 type). For a coffee roaster with competition, they need to pick their game up a bit. Sorry folks, it just wasn't...

This was my first time visiting this establishment, my group and I were struggling to figure out where we would go visit this morning and we had a recommendation from a close friend to check out Extraction Coffee and I am so glad that we had that recommendation and found ourselves here!
Atmosphere: Amazing spacious venue, GREAT layout and the artwork about the types of coffee flavours on the wall was such a centerpiece; I found myself constantly reading and learning. Definitely a light airy feel to the venue which makes you feel good along with the combination of sensational smells from the coffee to the food wafting through the air.
Service: The service is standard, super friendly staff and always ready to answer any questions you may have about the variety of coffee beans to the ingredients on the menu. Constant check-ins to see how everyone is doing and reasonable timing on clearing the table after meals are finished so you won't have a full table of empty plates.
Food: The food is nice! My dish in particular with the mushrooms didn't contain much flavour and the mushrooms itself were quite big; I think I wasn't expecting whole mushroom hats so it was tough to get through it all. Overall, a good experience but certainly their forte is Artisan Coffee.
Honestly, it's a nice place I think we definitely want to come back and it's Southside so that's a plus; most places are closer to the city so it's good to see an establishment doing well southside. Highly recommend as a good spot to visit if you're ever servicing your Vehicle in this...
