Paid $9 more than expected and a third of the meal was missing without compensation. I don't know if this is a regular occurrence, perhaps I was just unlucky and ordered from them on a bad day. However, I was quite disappointed in the service today. I looked up online to try and find a cheap lunch my hubby and I could share. Online, their menu said their big breakfast was $19 and pictures of it looked good, so I thought it seemed a decent price. I called up to order over the phone so it could get cooking while inas on the way and I was asked what coffee I'd like? Which surprised me as it didn't say anything about coffee being included. I didn't really want a coffee with it, but figured maybe they've updated it slightly, so was expecting perhaps a couple $ extra, maybe $22? So if it's included figured, why not. I asked for decaf and lactose free, due to allergies, which were $1 extra each, so $2 total. (Which is a bit ridiculous. 50c sure, but $1 a bit much for alternatives that don't cost extra to buy. But that's not what disappointed me). Anyway. Figured why not. I arrive and the lady tells me they've run out of spinach, but I couldn't do much about that and they'd already started cooking the meal and made my coffee, so accepted that. Then when I went to pay it was $28! O.o $9 (although $7 if you subtract the $2 for coffee extras) more than what was displayed online! I showed the lady what it said online, and to her credit, she told another staff member straight away, I assume her boss, so it can hopefully be updated. But offered no compensation for the missing food or misleading price. But it was just spinach, so I just politely accepted that and paid the extra $9. Then after paying, she comes out to tell me they also ran out of tomatos! And then gave me my takeaway without even offering to compensate with extra of something else to make up for the fact I'd paid $9 more than expected as well as received it without spinach or tomato (tomato being one of the main ingredient of a big breakfast in my opinion). They had a couple of slices of tomato in their front of house trays for their sandwiches, so I asked if I could at least have a few slices of those. She had to go ask permission to do that, to which it was agreed. So at the very least I got 4 thin slices of tomato then I just heated them up in the microwave when I got home so they went with the meal. The bacon and eggs tasted very good at least. The sausage was a bit dry and there was a very small amount of mushrooms, which added to the dissapointment. If you're going to get someone to pay full price and not give them 2 of the expected ingredients, at least add a bit extra of the other ingredients. Even without extra, it still wasn't much. I don't like to leave bad reviews. And as I said, perhaps it was just a bad day. So I don't like to be a Karen who just complains whenever she gets the chance. I put up with a lot of things without saying anything. But sometimes a little constructive criticism is needed to help improve service and I believe, in this instance, some attention is needed for improvement. Especially if others, like myself, are specifically looking for good value at a decent price because they can't afford meals from higher class joints. I specifically ordered there because $19 was a decent price for a big breakfast, and I was planning to share with my husband, making it out to be roughly $10 pp. I don't have much to spare. And if they hadn't already started cooking it I would have said sorry I'm going to go elsewhere when they told me it'd be $28, especially since it came without the spinach or tomato. It's not fair to take advantage of others by giving them less while asking for more. I mean no I'll, however. It's just good to be aware of these things, though, because with prices the way they are these days, a lot of people are struggling and we should be doing our part to make sure what we do is fair so we don't put any extra...
Read moreThis is easily the best value meal my wife and I have had in ages! I have just changed to a no carb diet and still had no problems leaving not only fed but totally enjoyed my roast beef with salad.
There are a number of apparently more prestigious and certainly more expensive venues in Brisbane that could learn a thing or two about roast meat from Southgate Carvery
Great job folks we are dead set coming back !!! again and again and again!
8 Months later and nothing has changed except the menu, everything I said above absolutely...
Read moreAn absolutely terrible experience. We found the restaurant online and the photos in the reviews looked great, but the reality was a big disappointment. We ended up paying $10 more than we should have, the food wasn’t good, and it was missing ingredients that were listed in the description. We also wait more than half an hour. I really don’t recommend this place. On top of that, the lady was very unpleasant. It was our last brunch in Australia, and I was truly disappointed to end our...
