I had booked my birthday dinner for this saturday night over a month in advance. I had to keep updating the booking as more people confirmed to coming. Initially booked for 10, then 15 and finally 20 people (13 adults, 5 kids, 1 baby so almost 20) almost 2 weeks before.
I chose this restaurant because my partners family have been going for decades and were friendly with the owners.
We had gone only a couple of months ago with a table of 15 and had a lovely time.
5 days before the booking I get a call that we are required to do the banquet menu. I advised that half of the guests are children and babies so we wouldn't need the banquet. I was then advised today, 4 days before, that we are required to agree to paying a minimum of $600 for the table, food only, excluding drinks. No split bills either. Which is well out of our budget and more than the table will likely spend on food alone.
They also advised I wasn't allowed to keep my 6:30 booking and wanted me to book 5pm and agree to leave by 7pm OR come at 7:15 instead.
We continued back and forward through messaging and over the phone only to be forced to have to cancel my birthday dinner all together.
No apologies from the staff or any customer service whatsoever.
I've advised all guests that would have attended, including the family that have been coming for decades and none of us will ever go to this restaurant again
I have spent the entire day crying because my birthday dinner is now cancelled and i cannot handle the stress of having to find a new restaurant that caters to all of the food intolerances the family have.
I may have said some choice words to the worker that happily cancelled my booking but to be frank, you all deserved it.
0/10. Would not recommend.
After reading the response from the owner, I am more than confident in keeping this review up. I has changed my booking to 20 people almost 2 weeks before the booking date. They phoned me 4 days beforehand that my booking time became an issue. It's clear they value high turn over and money over actual customer service experience and it's clear they are great at playing the blame game in their responses to...

From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were embraced by a very warm and welcoming environment that instantly transported us to Thailand. The food was nothing short of exceptional. Each dish was a perfect blend of flavors, prepared with the finest ingredients and served with the utmost care. You can tell that the chefs take great pride in their craft, delivering traditional Thai dishes that are both delicious and true to their roots. Whether it was the fragrant curries, the perfectly balanced pad thai, or the aromatic soups, every bite was a culinary delight.
What truly sets The Thai Orchid apart, though, is their unparalleled hospitality. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly, making us feel like honored guests throughout our entire meal. Their knowledge of the menu and willingness to accommodate our preferences was commendable, adding a personal touch to our dining experience.
Hats off to the management for creating such a wonderful establishment that not only celebrates Thai cuisine but also the rich culture and traditions of Thailand. If you’re looking for an authentic Thai experience in Brisbane, The Thai Orchid in Springwood is the place to be. Highly...
Read moreThe Thai Orchid at Springwood. What else can I say? It's in their name, "The Thai Orchid". First Thai restaurant in Brisbane. Family owned small-business. Tina & Mandy (mother & daughter duo) have been delighting the locals for over 30 years, and have continued to uphold their high standards for; excellence, consistency, and to always make it a memorable experience when you enter their restaurant.
Food for them and for a lot of people (including myself), isn't just about eating. Food is a way for family/friends/people to gather. They understand this, and also understand that food (when cooked right) can transport you back to a very special place. You don't need to be a foodie to understand this. We've all had an experience when you were younger, at home, ate a meal that your mum (or dad) cooked for you that was so good that every time they make it, it never fails to transport you back to that moment. Tina & Mandy understand this especially being mothers and daughters themselves, and because they understand and have at the very core put this at such a high value.
You can see this as soon as you walk in to their restaurant. From the moment they greet you, from the moment you take a seat and take a deep breath to take in the atmosphere, and from the moment you leave. They'll treat you like family, and will always look forward to...
