First thing first, I am all about supporting local and small businesses, I would love to help them out if they're worth to be helped. This place, however, was not. Anything about their food was a disgrace for Hong Kong, my second home.
We had to wait more than 35 minutes for our four takeaway dishes. They forced us to do takeaways as they closed their dine-in areas apart from three tiny tables outside. I was waiting at the shop the whole time and could actually see some takeaway bowls were already out for a good 15 minutes, but their staff were either too busy taking orders or serving people who dine-in. After 30 minutes, I had to ask for mine and then they started packing takeaway bowls into a plastic bag, some of them, were actually the same bowls that was sitting unattended in the last 20 minutes. I get it that they were busy and maybe had a lack of staff, so I was still quite understanding.
We brought the food in to the food court area inside MCity and started having them. My goodness. To say that their food was unfavourable was an understatement. It's beyond that. I'm Asian and my family lives in Hong Kong, so naturally, I have been to HK multiple times. So rest assured, I know what good HK food is. Theirs didn't live up to HK's name. I honestly don't know how the other reviews came with such a good review for this place.
My 'Stir-fry Crispy Thin Noodle in Black Bean Sauce with Calamari' had some burnt noodle in it. It tasted nothing but salty. The 'Minced beef with Raw Egg on Rice' was not that far behind. It was, sorry, disgusting. The 'minced beef' was so few that all we found was basically rice (heaps of them!) with an egg and plenty of sauce. The 'Mix and Match Set' was also a disgrace. The 'fried chicken chop' was soggy and infused with oil, anything but crispy. The mushroom sauce was so cold it became jelly. It had tons of rice, though. Finally, the 'HK Style BBQ Pork w/ Egg on Rice' was really the crop of them all in term of the disgrace. Few slices of BBQ pork, two pieces of veggies, one overcooked egg, on top of, you've guessed it, tons of rice.
We will not come back. We will not recommend this place. Sorry. I hate to leave negative reviews. As I said in the beginning, I'm all about supporting local, small, businesses. However there is a line that we must draw, and sadly, this place was NOT worth the visit and surely not worth the money....

📍HKfoodie Authentic Cantonese cuisine featuring comforting classics from breakfast sets with macaroni soup, pineapple buns with butter, cheese baked rice, and street snacks like curry fishballs!
Featured in video Portuguese baked seafood rice ($18.8) Beef hor fun ($15.8) HK breakfast set ($15.8) Tomato beef macaroni soup, spam and egg toast, milk tea Popcorn chicken ($7.8) Curry fish balls ($6.8) Tea eggs ($4.8) Pineapple bun ($7.8) Lemon tea ($4.8)
The cheese baked rice was full of seafood, and pairs so well with the creamy rice! It's almost like pasta, but the rice feels lighter and it's easy to eat. Beef hor fun noodles were smooth and silky, with tender beef. The bean sprouts added a nice crunchy touch!
I LOVE HK style breakfast, especially macaroni soup! The tomato borscht soup was rich and flavourful, with a strong tomato taste, went so well with the beef brisket, and the macaroni soaked up the soup perfectly. The acidity of the tomatoes cuts through any oily feeling. It was nice to dip the toast in the soup too.
The crispy popcorn chicken is well seasoned with mixed spices and white pepper and the bits of chicken thigh are juicy. Curry fish balls were aromatic, the savoury sauce had a strong flavour of curry with slight spice, and the rich and light sauce coated the fish balls well. Tea eggs were simple and well brewed. The sauce was fragrant and absorbed well.
The iconic pineapple bun was slightly crispy on the outside, fluffy and soft inside, and the thick slice of butter was creamy and smooth. (not the healthiest, but SO GOOD for a treat!!)
Milk tea and lemon tea were brewed nicely, we probably should have not ordered no sugar option since it was BITTER but asian parents would definitely approve since it's not too sweet.
Definitely would be back again to try the dinner menu! It's conveniently located in M city, perfect for university students since the prices are reasonable for LARGE portions. Easily one of the best #cheapeats in the...
