It's seems like Clayton is our go to place on weekends. Why? The stretch of road, on both sides have many eatery of many type of cuisine. We wanted have Vietnamese food and we have our go to places but since we are back Clayton, we wanna try this place that seems highly rated.
Ambience & Service [3]. We came in by the rear door as our car is parked behind the shop. Once inside, very typical Vietnamese restaurant with classic paintings on wall. What's special is the TV is showing the V-Pop group singing and dancing. Yes, we mostly know K-Pop and this our first time we saw V-Pop.
The staff is friendly. I have asked for flat rice noodles for the combination and said stir fried. Perhaps miscommunication and I received the correct noodle but with gravy.
Food [3]. Well I have started with the miscommunication above. Adding on I agreed with one reviewer that the broth in the beef pho wasn't tasty. It tasted like something else. The weather is 28 degrees so we decided to have cold drinks hence ordered the cold Vietnamese coffee. You can see in the picture, the top half of the glass is full of ice. We got to wait for the ice to melt so that the coffee won't be too thick and sweet. But then what's the purpose of having cold drinks when we had to wait for the ice to melt?? The spring rolls are alright and the dry version of Pho was also good.
Overall, we don't think this place is that great as we had better Pho in our go to place. Again, if we never try we will never know who is...
Read moreOG. The Michellin star guy seriously needs to pop into this place. Or maybe, we keep this hidden gem for ourselves. Situated in the growing and trending main street of Clayton, you'd be lucky to stumble into Saigon One, if you weren't already sucked into the "insta-hype" restaurants along the busy street. It is perfectly situated with a backdoor entrance straight from the big car park out back. Most old school Asian joints make us wish we understood the menu without the need of Google searching the dish to look at a picture, but here they have kindly put up photos of expected dishes on the walls. Let me just say the food is top tier and your local Maccas would be considered a slow food restaurant in comparison to Saigon. Whipping up full on meals in a matter of minutes. They have free wifi so you can transfer more money over, because you over-ate. And they bang your classic tunes; only it's covered by some Asian cover band, but it still SLAPS! My go to place if I'm...
Read moreI got the special chicken noodle soup with some salt & pepper pork ribs. It’s pretty alright, not the best I’ve had but still very tasty. Will try the beef noodles next time. I also felt the pork was a bit bland but the chilli they served here tasted pretty authentic. It’s actually spicy.
I also tried the large bbh for $17. I think the broth is really good. It tastes more like tom yum which i enjoyed. Noodles are silky smooth, goes really well with the broth. The amount of beef was quite generous too. I really enjoyed this dish.
We got the pork omelette for $13 which was alright. The ingredients are really well mixed, one side had carrots while the other side had carrots. The carrots are sweet, a bit pickled, but not sour. It’s alright, but I wouldn’t really come...
