⬆️🍽 Finally got to experience the food last night at Atas Dining in the Northern Suburbs after reading lots of online reviews about this eatery run by proprietors who originate from Selangor, Malaysia.
🧭 Location: about 9 mins’ drive from Costco Epping — well located in the outdoor dining section of Westfield Plenty Valley, just next to a well landscaped outdoor playground with a small water feature; plenty of free outdoor shopping centre parking a short walk away
💡🪑 Ambience: modern design with a bartop area; walls consisted of lots of glass & wooden tones on the walls which extended to the tables & chairs, all illuminated with comfy warm downlight
🤵🏻 Service: attentive with lots of wait staff, who at times are all busy near the kitchen & behind bartop
🍽 Food quality was high: 🍛 sizzling hotplate tofu - for this the chef served the hotplate to our table & poured the minced meat sauce to create the sizzle & smoke all directly in front of us; 🌶🐟 curry fish fillet - broth was yummy inviting one to finish it all up an extra portion of rice; fish pieces were deep fried, some pieces were doughy and contained fish bones; 🍜 Ipoh Fried Noodles/Wat Tan Hor - egg sauce was thick & had lots of seafood garnishing
💲 Pricing: slightly higher (roughly 20% to 30%) price point compared to other local casual Malaysian eateries (example: an extra bowl of rice was $3)
✅ Overall a positive dining experience in the northern suburbs - for those living not living close by, could perhaps be combined with a visit to Costco & Costco Fuel Epping; didn’t get to try the well-reviewed yam basket ring which I might return for in a future visit

Read moreWe dined in tonight at Atas Restaurant in Mill Park. 2 adults and a 2 year old. Food was OK. Although they charge 50c for each container for leftovers. Paid $120. The reason for 1 star is HYGIENE and the Staff attitude. The old Lady wearing glasses acted weird. Having a 2 year old means messy meals. I took few (3-4) extra serviettes to use for feeding my little one. The lady wearing glasses came to our table and started counting the serviettes that I took. She RUDELY asked “Why do you need so many? Take just one.” And she started taking them back leaving just one ( Seriously!). I said I need them for feeding my little one. We were shocked and surprised that she came all the way to our table to count the serviettes and would have kept them back to be used by other customers even after we holded them with our foody hands. Ridiculous!! Is this how you treat your customers 😳 Another concerning act- when they collected all the dirty dishes, one of the blue Kids bowl and cutlery was not taken for washing along with other dirty dishes but was put back with the washed pile to be reused (definitely not by mistake). I am surprised irrespective of whether that bowl and cutlery was dirty or not but because it was placed on our table and my daughter played with it, it should have been washed before next use. In the vulnerable times of Flu and Covid, I think the restaurant should take some extra hygienic measures. It’s not only wearing the masks but overall hygiene practice is needed to keep everyone safe. Spoiled all our dining experience!! The council should do thorough Hygiene inspection for...
Read moreI wanted to give 4 stars, but after recent dining experience, I can only give Atas 2 stars. Don't get me wrong, the food is good (3-4 stars), but the waiter did not consider the fact that some patrons (like myself) are uncomfortable sitting too close to another patron due to Covid-19.
What happened was when we entered, we noticed existing patrons were all cramped to one side (red box). Next we were directed to sit right in between all of them (blue arrow) which was way too close for comfort, I can easily stretch out and touch another customer's shoulder.
I immediately requested to sit somewhere else and stated my concern, their response was "It's not government ruling", sure I agree, but the place is pretty vacant (green box), Atas have the space to spread their customer out to reduce risk of exposure, why didn't they do it? Their response was it's convenient for them (waiter) to serve/clean-up. So does that mean customer's health/safety is less important than the waiter's convenience? Just based on their response itself shows that they are not very considerate.
Note I am OK to sit next to another patron if the place is crowded and lack of seats, I understand there is no choice and Atas has a business to run, but the fact is most tables were vacant at that particular time, hence there is no need to pack everyone so close together.
I hope Atas will consider proper risk management...
