I lived in Glen Waverley for 34 years. I walk along Springvale Road often. BBQ Code is always busy. I figured it must be a great place.

Finally bit the bullet and went along with a friend. All I can say is that it wasn't worth the hype.

The service was terrible. In my opinion, possibly the worst I've ever experienced. We ordered the pork set menu at $34pp. For the price, the portions were not great. Different cuts with different marinades are mixed together so in the end, you have no idea what you're actually getting

The staff don't tell you what anything is either. Their communication was possibly the worst I've ever experienced. Hardly attentive, and they didn't even say "hello" or "thank you." Most of the staff appeared to be kids. They need training. They need to be taught how to greet their customers, and thank them. Explain the dishes to us as well. When we order a combination of pork, explain what each cut is etc.

Instead, meat was cut up and thrown on the grill. We had no idea if it was ready or not as they just walk off and don't say a thing. It isn't until we prompt them, they respond. However, they need to be the ones to initiate contact and explain everything. That's awful service. It's a great way to make customers feel neglected and unimportant.

For the price, this place was absolutely not worth it. I have rarely ever felt so neglected. The staff should have been better trained or more to the point, trained.

The food is nice. However for the price there isn't enough. For $34 I'd expect more meat. I found the portions to be lacking.

I will absolutely not return and fail to understand the appeal...

Honestly, their food is delicious that is no doubt but this is a very tiny space and limited time for each booking for dining in.

If you are planning for a some kind of celebration and you are a meat person plus you don’t mind noise around you then this restaurant suits you

Personally, I don’t really like the dining table setting for us today as we’ve mentioned we will travel with our little one but they still set up a table where keep all dishes right next to our little one who is like to touch everything around her, which was inconsiderate especially we booked 5 days before.

In terms of the cost, I think for the entire set of food, it was bit pricey apart from all meat selections which is within reasonable price range according my standard.

In regards of the table service, I think they push the turn over very hard to accommodate more customers hence I do feel pressure that we need to finish everything within 1 hr time. When they bring some hot dishes onto table, the staff put the hot plate right next to our baby, and that was the BIG NO NO to us.

Regardless of all delicious food that we’ve had, I really couldn’t give them 5 stars based on those points we’ve mentioned above.

I believe this restaurant has potential to be the top one but when the they are so inconsiderate with their customers’ enquiry, I’m really doubt who would like to...

This meal was everything that you want when having Korean BBQ! The meat selection was incredibly fresh and nicely marinated - nothing was frozen, and every piece of beef and pork was delicious. The staff were friendly, constantly changing the grill, and offered to cook to meats, although we cooked it ourselves as that’s what we prefer.

The banchan selection was great, and unlimited! I loved the variety of meat sets that they have, and how much it came with! We got the Plain Code set, and Rainbow Code set and each one came with - basic side dishes, dipping sauces, rice, corn cheese AND 2 Korean dishes!

We added their pork kimchi soup, soybean soup, seafood pancake and japchae with the sets, and ordered an additional tteokbokki (sorry, I got it wrong in the voiceover). Honestly, EVERYTHING was really good!! I messaged my friends who live around the area to ask if they’ve been here before and realised this was the place where we got our takeaway meat sets from when we did BBQ at home during Covid lockdown!

@bbqcode_glenwaverley definitely lives up to their 4.7 star Google rating! Have any of you been here? And do you also love this place? Or did I just have a REALLY good feed and time when I was here?...

Would give 4.5. The food was delicious. We had the pork platter with the standout being the marinated neck meat. Amazing. Have to get myself some fermented soy paste so I can make some! The wings were awesome and cooked well. The diced pickled daikon was awsosme too and somehow better than the sliced pickled daikon. Service was.. Ok. Their English wasn't very good so there was a clear language barrier which made it hard. I wish K-BBQ places would have ice for drinks. I love soju on ice or even just for soft drinks. The japchae was the weakest dish for me with not a lot of textural difference and missing something. The place didn't have much atmosphere and seats were quite uncomfortable but fit for purpose. Would be nice if they asked if you would like to cook your own food on the grill. We would of. Only one more thing could of made this better apart from things already stated and that's charcoal grills not gas just from a flavour perspective. That said the gas grill got nice and hot quickly and produced good flavour. Certainly better than the electric units some places have. Will definitely go again, want to try some of their wagyu and other pork like the jowl. Oh and pricing was fair.

✨ MUST TRY Gopchang BBQ ✨ Look no further than BBQ Code for Korea’s most beloved dish, Gopchang BBQ! This Winter they are serving up this special at a promotional price. (Ends August 31st 2024) We had: 🐮 Gopchang Set $108 > $98 🌟 🐮 Gopchang Hotpot $26.80 > $24.80 🌟 🐔 Soy Garlic Wings $27 🍜 Japchae (beef) $19 🥞 Pancake Seafood $16 🥤 Coke Zero $4 🥤 Bong Bong Grape $4 🥤 Milkis $4 If you haven’t tried intestinal meats, YOU ARE MISSING OUT. Not only are they highly nutritious, they give a delicious deep beefy and fatty flavour with a delightful chewy texture. Paired with chilled noodles as a palate cleanser if you feel it’s getting too oily! (As a casual keto/carnivore-ist it did not bother me and I ate the noodles separately at the end 🤣) I especially enjoyed eating the intestines WITH the garlic which added a sweetness too! As per Korean customs, the finale calls for the remaining bits to be stir fried to create Kimchi fried rice, nothing goes to waste! The technique used allows for a crispy base. They say when Korean’s ask for dessert, it’s Kimchi Fried Rice! 😋👌 Aside from the delicious set, the sides were ordered were also delicious and so well executed.

This place is one of a few I'd give a perfect 5/5. First of all, the food screams 'flavours'. Every item we'd ordered was delicious. We had the Pork set, fried chicken and other stuff here and there. (Please take note this is not a buffet restaurant.) The staff will help you cook the meat. They refilled the Korean condiments like Kimchi, mashed potatoes, etc. Seafood soup was beautiful, the fried chicken was crispy. The BBQ was prefect. Service was amazing. They've got members of staff who are bubbly, as well as the ones who are quiet. But most importantly, they were all very attentive, polite and know what they're doing. Its a tougher job for them since they'd help you cook, cut the meat, clean the grill, periodically. Fantastic job! Atmosphere... We went there on a Wednesday. The place is tucked away behind a corner and not along the busy Kings Way Street. Yet, the place was about 60-70% full inside. They'd probably extend to the outdoor area on busy nights. Overall, it has more of a family run business feel rather than those franchised eateries. Overall, we enjoyed the dinner and highly recommend if you love Korean food and BBQ.
