Hail to the king of bbq- the real review
My wife and I officially crown this is is the best buffet korean BBQ. My goodness a well deserved 10/10 among all the bbqs I tried in Melbourne.
The food: the sushi š a well balanced between the meat and rice. I was scared that they will put more rice than the stuffing but thankfully they didnt. It was so good but I had to control myself because the star of the bbq is of course the meat. So many choices!! Beef instenstine wow. My wife loved it but im surprised they have it! Lamb was there too and the herb powder they have with the meat absolutely amazing. No korean bbq restaurants i know has it in Melbourne. This is coming from a guy who been to korea many times, tried all sorts of korean food and honestly speaking the other dishes like hot food was very close. The fried rice though was a little disappointing as the rice was too hard i feel but everything else was so freaking good. Take care of the cooks in yhe restaurants please. They deserve a pay rise.
The service We indeed late for our reservation and rules are rules, the manager had to give our table to someone else. Thats ok! Atleast we dont "complain" or "begged" for it unlike some customers. The manager did his job and we only waited for like 10 mins for our table. There was a worker there i will call him the terminator. He literally looked like a terminator, serious face analysed every customer's table to make sure the bbqs were ok. I raised my hand and he came over immediately. I asked to change the gas can and I did not expect he was carrying a can of gas in his pocket! (Yes it is a big deal as they can seamlessly change gas can without walking up and down) my only nitpick, when you change grill, make sure to communicate to customers. For example " i see the grill is ready to be changed there, would you mind me to change it for you?" Rather then intercept with no communication. Some people may think its rude.
The atmosphere/setting Though a little smoke everywhere as you would expect at every bbq place. It was fine. I guess my only only nitpick would be the chairs. I personally think, it can be a little dangerous because as customers never seem to push their bloody chairs in, the chair legs sticks out and people can easily trip. Happened to me a little as I had some minor trips.
Conclusion: This will be my go to bbq from now on unless im too lazy to drive to the glen. The hot food amazing, great range of meat and staff locked in to achieve the best service they can. All the best and success for this restaurant. Truely a title of king of bbq!
On a side note, the people to rated low and read their review are very petty. Boo hoo the sashimi wasnt stocked up. Boo hoo theres a 10% surcharge- have you not been other places on a weekend where they do 10% surcharge on weekends? Its literally...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst, the good. I've visited for both dinner and lunch on separate occasions. Overall a good experience, good selection of meats and side dishes. Good quality. And the fact that sashimi is offered is awesome. Desserts on offer are good in terms of the ice-cream; most, if not all of the selection, is Korean ice-cream brands rather than generic Australian brands.
What can be improved on? I would say the seating time is a bit on the rushed side. Most KBBQ places I've been to offer 2 hour seating (Moohan, Meating, Mipung etc) but here it's only 1.5 hours - meaning you need to pace yourself more to get your money's worth.
Also, the chuck steaks are portioned way too large. I'd suggest cutting it into smaller pieces as it fills an entire dinner plate when laid flat.
Another thing I want to mention is that sashimi is only available for dinner only (or, as the waiter mentioned to me, after 4.30pm) but not for lunch - this came as an unpleasant surprise as I am a big sashimi fan. This may seem like a minor thing but I still think it should be worth mentioning for the public to know and avoid disappointment. Staff are polite but sometimes need to be a little more attentive. Also, I'm not sure what's up with the grill plates here but the last time I visited the meat kept sticking (even when clean) and they had to change it numerous times. They were oiled but it might be a quality issue with the pans.
It gets quite noisy later in the evening when more people come in, and the last time I visited... It got a bit smoky so they had to open the windows. Ventilation ducts mighr have been under the pump or not working as well.
Overall I would say it's worth a visit for sure. Hopefully they extend the eating time to 2 hours in future for a more comfortable experience (instead...
Read moreMy recent visit to BBQ king in Glen Waverley was incredibly disappointing. Despite positive online reviews and the owner's promotional ads, our experience fell far short of expectations. We arrived on a Friday evening around 8pm to find the restaurant supposedly "fully booked," yet numerous tables remained empty throughout our visit. After waiting 15minutes for an inside table (despite offering to sit outside in the 30°C heat), we were seated at a shared table far from the food. I asked the manager again for closer table that was also denied.
The service was equally problematic.Ā When our meat was ready, an employee inexplicably transferred cooked meat onto a dish containing water from raw seafood and has beef's blood, leaving us deeply concerned about food safety and hygiene. The beef was of poor quality, smelling and tasting unpleasant, a stark contrast to the appealing photos online.Ā Even the watermelon was not fresh. The "tteokbokki" was also unappetizing.
The worst aspect was the owner's response to my private email detailing our negative experience. Instead of addressing my concerns directly, he forwarded my email to a friend, who then publicly shared my story on Threads without my consent. This blatant disregard for my privacy and feedback is unacceptable.
My experience was drastically different from the positive online reviews I had read.Ā I felt compelled to leave this feedback to warn others.Ā For two people, the meal cost of $95, a complete waste.Ā I have also left a one-star review on Google for city BBQ king a year ago. I am not someone who typically leaves reviews, but this experience was so egregious that I felt it necessary to share my experience twice. I will...
