Billy's Paddock — Restaurant in Melbourne

Can’t comment on the food as our order was never received, or should I say was never put through by the waitress who was too occupied chatting.

After patiently waiting for 30minutes for two parmas in a restaurant which had only 15-20 people dining in I questioned what was happening as we had waited over 30minutes for food. I watched the waitress open their ordering system to see the table had no order attached to it. The staff did not state they forgot to put the order through and as soon as I noticed they were trying to hide their obvious mistake I opted to leave rather than pay for a meal to staff who are more occupied with their own personal needs. Fair to say there was no shortage of staff as there was a lot of conversation amongst themselves. We were told the order will be ready in 1 minute which I declined based on the lack of ownership of the mistake and not wanting to know what side of salmonella comes with a minute Parma.

My partner had taken insulin to accommodate for the carbs and sugars as he has diabetes and suffered a hypoglycaemic event. I hope this does not occur to other customers and would opt to eat elsewhere.

I called to pass on this experience to the manager and was instead told by the waitress’s if we just gave them one minute the food would have been out. Completely ignored the situation and did not take any ownership and blamed us instead. Please next time pass my information on as I asked and do not speak over me. My partner has already suffered enough there was no need to speak to him and antagonise him.

There is an obvious need for education in diabetes and training and apparently common sense. Thanks for hanging up on us. I will speak with a manger tomorrow who is hopefully more receptive of the extent of...

[FEB 2025] ... Glad took notice about reprinting menus ... The old torn menus were well past used by date - thanks for updating (but should've chosen a better company to laminate - already starting to peel apart on our menu's last night) ... as my niece noticed at dinner.

Have dined here == 3 times in last 7 days. 100% tops +++ will keep coming back EVERY time in CS.

Until next time I'm in CS / MELB ... This is OUR personal FAV place to dine ... even my extended family that live here in CS love this place (+++ speak highly of it).

Now ... if only could do something about worn-out upholstery of seating ??? Just saying !

But don't let that stop anyone from going here ... ESP the specials nights == a long-time FAV +++ so much value.

[NOV 2024] ... Still a huge favourite amongst our family. Love going here, whether for coffee between shopping, a lunch get-together, or for dinner.

Menu's could perhaps do with reprinting ... starting to get alittle used/dog-eared (my menu tonight was torn on RHS, missing the pricing for 1 menu item).

[OLD update 2023] ... Great meals + prices. Good restaurant to eat at ... have visited 3 times in last 2 weeks.

Seems to lack alittle in some areas. Not quite the same standard they were at pre-covid ... But still a good choice to dine at when in CS.

My family has been to Billy's Paddock several times over the past 2 years, as the meals have been quite good and the service always top-notch. The last 2 visits have been disappointing though, and last night we had our worst meal ever. The Marinara Pasta was a very poor dish, supposedly meant to have a "touch of Napoli sauce" however the pasta and minuscule amounts of seafood were literally drowned in it. The sauce itself was very uninspiring, bland with no seasoning evident. You couldn't taste the seafood or garlic at all amongst the huge slop of sauce in the dish. A lady sitting next to our table overheard our comments and chimed in giving the same opinion outlined above.

The "Hand Crumbed Chicken Parma" that's supposedly "Japanese crumbed" presumably with Panko bread crumbs, one would expect to be nice and crunchy but was overly moist with little texture, and again the sauce was very bland. For the asking price of $27, I expected this should have been a very good dish however I was very disappointed and have had much better Parma's for a lower price at many other establishments.

The service however was very good, as it has always been which is why I've decided to give a 2 star rating as opposed to 1 which is what this review probably deserves. I don't think we'll be going back...
