Bo Gurks — Restaurant in Melbourne

Tonight was our first time here. We were going to stop in last sat but they had a Star wars trivia night (May 4th)... Great selection of Australian boutique beers...very limited wine list. We were greated , asked if we came for food or just drinks...we said drinks and were seated in the middle, dimly lit booths. Waited a good 10 minutes before i got up and asked the same waiter 'do we order at the bar or is it table service' to which he asked the exact same question as 10 minutes earlier, are you having food or just drinks.? I said drinks again , so he then brought a menu for my wife as she wanted a wine. I went to the bar , had a pint on tap. Here is my issue , being in hospitality for many years and being part of the transformation in some venues from full table service to bar service i would have asked if it was our first time visiting this venue, obviously given a wine/cocktails/dessert/food menu and explained the ordering and that water is self served at the bar etc.... Staff were inattentive at best.... Our waiter was more concerned with the footy on tv and his smoke break than our explanation of ordering protocol. I think this place has the potential of something great.....pick any canned or bottled beer in the very extensive fridge and its an extra $3 to have it poored for you to drink. Similar to a few top restaurants/bars we have been to with connecting cellars where you can choose a bottle of red and for an extra fixed price have it served at your table. But fix up your staff.... to act accordingly and explain what is going on so new customers such as ourselves feel comfortable...

Had the misfortune of being served by an extremely surly and rude barman at your venue last night. I asked politely for the cocktail menu. His response was that he rolled his eyes and looked at his watch and just stood there and stared back at me and stood motionless and said nothing! I asked for the menu again. He replied that our table had already ordered cocktails and should know what's in the menu! I could not believe what I was hearing. I asked for the menu again and he rudely pointed to the other end of the bar and dismissed me. Whilst I was reading the menu he was also extremely rude and aggressive to another group of people at the bar who were having a problem with a bottle of wine they had ordered and he caused an argument with them. I felt uncomfortable when I'd chosen what I wanted and was time to order. The look on his face and attitude was appalling. He seemed like he was angry about something and was taking it out on the customers. It's a shame because he basically ruined what had been a quite enjoyable evening up to that point. I've witnessed both good and bad service over the years and I can tell you that man behind your bar last night does not belong in a customer...

Updated: absolutely amazing. The pizza is delicious. The gluten free bases are made on premises and hand made and stretched. The BEST GLUTEN FREE BASES I'VE TASTED. Very friendly and accommodating. The place is so cool and if you ask about it they will tell you how it came about. Huge range of craft beer and ciders. So awesome. Love this place. Going to come here often. Thanks guys.

Only walked in to check it out. Looks great. Heaps of craft beer to choose from. Loads of other drinks to including local Gins. Wood fired pizza and gluten free bases available. I'm going Sunday night so give another review then. But owner was so friendly. Only 4 stars as haven't actually tried yet. Will update on Sunday after I actually come...
