Bonsai Bali — Restaurant in Melbourne

Ordered here for the first time and decided to collect our order. As you walk up to the door a hand written piece of paper tells you there is no dine in. All the tables are stacked up on one side with an array of polystyrene boxes everywhere. There is an old air con unit on the floor and the place does not look clean. The guy at the front desk was pleasant and the food was prepared on time, that is where good things ended. The food was of a very poor standard. All of the meat was dry, what there was of it. Dishes were mainly vegetables. Noodles where very doughy and inedible and the noodle was also very bland. We are only a short distance from the place and it was all cold by the time it was on our table. I agree with a lot of other reviews and think most food especially rice is boxed and microwaved as needed. I asked for cashews in my special fried rice, when I opened the container they had just thrown a handful of cashews on top of the rice. The wife and I visited here on a Thursday night in late May. There was probably about 3 other groups here so we had a a fairly quiet night. Service was prompt and the girls were friendly. A free bowl of Prawn Crackers was presented almost as soon as we sat down. Have a choice of Asian or Indonesian food. Our food was good and portions were a decent size and we did not have to wait long at all for the courses. We were even offered complimentary deserts which were nice too. Absolutely Do Not Recommend I ordered from Bonsai Bali through Uber Eats without checking the reviews first — big mistake. While waiting for my food, I came across all the negative feedback and thought, “How bad could it really be?” Well, turns out the reviews were spot on.

The Mi Goreng was honestly inedible — even my dog turned his nose up at it. The lamb dish I ordered was just as disappointing, completely lacking in flavour.
