Shanling Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Melbourne

We dined here for the first time last night with our neighbours. What brought us here were the fantastic 5 star google reviews. They certainly did not disappoint. The friendly staff made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. While the restaurant itself is only small and fairly basic inside, the staff were run off their feet all night both with dine in customers and takeaway orders. The menu offers a wide variety of tasty chinese dishes and also accommodates to vegetarians. We ordered entrees, main course and dessert. All meals were brought out quickly and all tasted absolutely amazing. The customer service was of very high standard. The overall flavour of the food was to die for, definately the tastiest Chinese we have ever had. We were also impressed with the size portions of each meal ordered. We could not finish our main course as we needed room for dessert, but we were able to bring the leftovers home to enjoy for dinner tonight which still tasted amazing even after reheating. I highly recommend this family owned and run restaurant to anyone looking for tasty, fresh and high quality chinese food at an affordable price. The only downside to Shanling is that I regret not finding this restaurant years ago. This is by far the best Chinese around and has become our new favourite Chinese restaurant. We will definately be returning here and will never eat Chinese from anywhere else again. If you are a person who enjoys a wine with your meal, bring a bottle with you as it is BYO. Hoh, went to try Shanlings off recommendations. Went in there with high hopes and absolutely did not disappoint. Were greeted by friendly guy at counter, advised us of wait time, very appreciated so I knew bow long to expect to wait, and was only 25 min wait. Cheerful customer service, ask for phone number for him to call when food was ready, and was ready right on when we were advised. Collected food and was given free prawn crackers plus a bonus can of drink for waiting out in the sun! Prices are real good compared to my local, sizes are good, not tiny like others. And then theres the food. Best chinese ibe had since living in Australia. Combination soup. Broth was 🤙🤙. Fried rice, flavourful and not dried out Satay chicken noodle, a little spicy than im use to but couldnt stop eating it. Combination with vegetables, so so generous with the meat, especially the king prawns! And so tasty. Honey chicken, delicious, not burnt tasting like many places do Sweet and sour pork, kept pork and sauce separate to keep it crispy. Lots of sauce and tasty. A pain to drive there at the mo because of closed roundabout on Thompsons, but hella worth the detoured drive! Will definitely be using another...

Visited here tonight with the family for the first time. No idea how I hadn’t tried Shanling given I love Asian food (Asian myself) and have lived in the area for many years. Lots of recommendations on local facebook groups so gave it a shot and wow!

We ordered 4 mains consisting of Sizzling black pepper steak, Deep fried king prawn with honey , Stir fried king prawns with chilli garlic and Combination with oyster sauce along with special fried rice. Absolutely blown away with the flavour produced.

I wish I could describe each dish one by one but I’d be here forever. Beef was also incredibly tender so they’ve nailed the velveting process.

Service was also fantastic. The only thing I could fault is that the place is a little old but that’s easily forgiven given everything else is 10/10.

Reading some of the negative reviews here I would say maybe they got a bad day/night as my rating seems consistent with others who have also been here.
