Cafe Gummo — Restaurant in Melbourne

I was privileged to have visited Café Gummo during their opening night. I was met with a charming, urban bar that offers a safe and welcoming atmosphere. The crowd was vibrant, passionate and into the music. The variety of music acts featured on opening night blew me away. I was particularly mesmerised by James Seedy who is featured in the review photos. His talent is so understated, I was hypnotically taken away by his performance and meeting the guy was also humbling as he is just the sweetest.

The owners are just as sweet. Sean and Lily worked the bar and floor like masters of their art. Their charming and high charisma definitely help. Pretty good selection of drinks, I am it the biggest drinker so it is lost on me. There is a beer garden out the back which is a nice reprieve from the tight quarters of the main bar. There are some very generous toilets provided for guests for their bodily needs.

This place is more than a bar, it’s a beacon of hope. Where to start. The staff are the nicest bar staff anywhere in the neighbourhood. They have a wide variety of obscure and interesting drinks, and always have great drink specials. Tuesday night they have cheap homemade vegan food, which everytime i’ve eaten it has been exceptional. Awesome beer garden. They are true supporters of underground and alternative arts, music, and culture and often have live shows. I recently saw the greatest live show i’ve seen in about 10 years here. i luv the atmosphere and vibes at gummo!! I would definitely visit again however i just wish it was a bit more accessible so we can all enjoy the good vibes 💔💔

for example- you can’t get a wheelchair inside because of the step at the door. I never saw a wheelchair ramp or any accessible aids to help get inside the venue there’s also lots of uneven spots so if using a stick you need to be really careful not to fall over.
