My daughter catches the tram to Uni that passes @lecafeflo and has always been intrigued by its popularity. So our pre Christmas get together had to be here. We arrived at 11am and there was a choice of indoor or outdoor seating. On one of the last Melbourne Spring days, outside was tempting but we chose a seat just inside the door. Straight away we were smitten by the menus, cleverly placed inside a French record album cover. Ooh la la. So v-e-r-y unique. Menu choices were abundant and we went for the classics - a baguette, a crepe and a croissant with various fillings. My La Montagnarde crepe was so authentic and reminded me of many weeks spent in rural France. The beautifully presented crepe also had a side salad, most different from mainstream cafes. The fillings in the crepe a blend of savoury and crunchy. The baguette was generous and we were able to take half with us. The iced chocolate and coffee both chilled, exactly what we needed on a warming Friday morning. #lecaféflo appears to have their fate share of regulars, fans and drop ins. Kids are welcome as you can see by the colouring books and reading material available at the entrance. Most importantly, the staff make this place. Discreetly checking to see how things are going without intruding. As I’ve mentioned before, service over food any day of the week for me and I’d return again, not just for the food but to get to know the staff more. If I was living in Thornbury, this would be a regular for me. The vibe is my kinda place and puts some of the OTT fancy cafes to shame with their genuine food and service. Keep up the great work #lecaféflo

Read moreIt's been some time now since Flo sold this business.
It seemed to only open sporadically for a while and then seemed to be closed for a time, so I'm not sure if the current operators are the ones who bought it from Flo or it was sold on again. We had lunch there there today. The best description I can offer is 'disappointing.'
My wife asked for a weak latte, and despite the menu on the wall clearly saying a latte had 2 shots, she was assured a 'standard' latte was one shot and it would not be strong. The latte served was very stong and bitter. She asked for it to be remade, which it was, but when it was served we got a lecture about how we should have asked for it to be weak. She had done that. I asked for a hot chocolate extra hot and was served a cold Milo-quality milk drink. You would have needed to heat it up for it to be lukewarm.
For our meal we both had quiche. It took around a half an hour to arrive - and we were served before people who had ordered long before we did. Despite the wait the quiche was cold.
As I was paying I was asked how everything was and I responded that it was cold. I was told in a rude tone I should have said something. Perhaps we should have, but you really shouldn't need to tell someone to warm up a quiche. It was the rude tone that surprised me. We couldn't wait to get out of there and just paid.
School canteen quality service.
EDIT: I cannot reply below but I want to acknowledge that the owner has offered to meet with us. However, if the owner is a tall man with a shaven head then he was there at the time standing right next to the person operating the cash register and said nothing in relation to...
Read more4.2. This is a very good place. It’s a charming little French inspired cafe on High Street with nice indoor and outdoor spaces. It has a quirky French inspired interior with interesting plates photos and other accoutrements adorning the walls. I also loved that the menus are presented inside French artists’ record album covers. It’s kitsch but it works.
My opening long black was lovely. I’ve rarely ever had a good coffee in France but thankfully this cafe hasn’t followed that lead. The brew was mighty tidy. I went with one of those build your own brekkies for my meal. Two poached eggs on toast with mushrooms, emmental cheese, baby spinach and smoked salmon. I chose wisely. The dish was all quality and really tasty. The cheese was amazing, the mushies excellent, the spinach was sautéed superbly and the salmon was absolutely drop dead gorgeous. The service size was also bang on perfect too. My partner had a crepe that she pronounced excellent. Our friend had quiche with salmon, goat’s cheese and spinach. I tried a bit. The quiche was a cracker. It was really tasty with flavour all there and the crust was light, tasty and not too heavy. A winning dish.
Service was friendly and charming throughout. The French music playing added to the general bonhomie.
Our friend lives in an apartment just near this place. She loves it and says the French owner is very nice. He wasn’t there today but his lovely and capable staff made up for his absence.
This is a really good place. No wonder it is popular. Highly...
