Now, you might be wondering what I mean by ‘hidden’. It’s essentially tucked away from the usual Richmond chaos on Swan Street and Bridge Roa yet it’s easily accessible from both ends of Richmond. One of the best parts? It’s very reasonably priced with brunch dishes ranging from $8 to $22. @Colombar is a classic breakfast/brunch spot during the early hours and transforms into a Sri Lankan fusion restaurant by night. I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing both and loved each visit! Here’s everything we ordered and loved: TURKISH EGGS: Spiced yoghurt, turlu-turlu, chilli oil, poached eggs, toasted pitta. CHILLI SCRAMBLED EGGS: With chorizo, cherry tomatoes, coriander, crispy shallots on sourdough. MUSHROOM MEDLEY: Roasted mushrooms, poached eggs, herb cream cheese, salsa verde. KAFFIR LIME AND CORN FRITTER: Avo salsa, coriander, sour cream, chilli jam, poached egg. You can also add a range of extras like halloumi, hash browns, chorizo, and bacon for a few extra dollars. Enjoy your meal with one of their gorgeous fresh juices (the watermelon one is a must!) and a coffee. There are also plenty of gluten free and vegetarian options available. If you’re after something quick, they also offer pastries and sandwiches to go. And for those with a sweet tooth, don’t miss their exclusive off-menu Snickers milkshake. At COLOMBAR, the service was impeccable. The staff greeted us with warm smiles and promptly seated us. Throughout the meal, they were attentive and accommodating, ensuring that we had everything we needed without being intrusive. Their knowledge of the menu was impressive, and they provided helpful recommendations that enhanced our dining experience. And as a sri lankan the food was really amazing. The highlight of their meal was undeniably the black pork curry. It was a flavor explosion! The tender pork was infused with aromatic spices and simmered to perfection in a rich, dark sauce. Each bite was a delicious journey through the depths of Sri Lankan cuisine, leaving us craving more. Paired with fluffy rice and a side of tangy pickle, it was a culinary delight that we won't soon forget. At the same time I gotta try the “Gal yaka” cocktail. It was a true delight! The bartender's skillful hand transforms Sri Lanka's iconic arrack into a mesmerizing cocktail that tingles the taste buds. With a perfect blend of sweetness and spice, each sip is like a journey through the lush landscapes of the island. Whether enjoyed neat or mixed into a tantalizing concoction, the cocktail is sure to enchant even the most discerning palate. Cheers to a taste of Sri Lankan magic!

My experience at Colombar Richmond was simply outstanding! From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with a warm and inviting ambiance that set the perfect tone for the evening. The food and service surpassed all expectations. We indulged in some of their Sri Lankan Infused Cocktails, including the Coco Moratuwa and Tusker, which were expertly crafted and perfectly complemented by the addition of Sri Lankan Arrack. For our main courses, we enjoyed the Chili Crab with Kottu Roti, Pan-fried Salmon, Gnocchi, and Lobster Tail. The Chili Crab was an absolute standout - bursting with flavor and presented beautifully. The Gnocchi was hands down the best I've ever had, and each dish was a feast for both the eyes and the palate. Despite it being a bustling evening, the food was served promptly, and the service remained impeccable throughout our meal. It's evident that the team at Colombar takes great pride in delivering an exceptional dining experience. Overall, it was a fantastic night, and we're already looking forward to our next visit to Colombar. If you're looking for a restaurant with incredible food, stunning presentation, and top-notch service, look no further than Colombar Richmond. Highly recommended!

Little food Gem in the hearts of Richmond under new Management

From the moment we stepped into this magnificent restaurant, I felt I was in for something spectacular . The ambience strikes the perfect balance between upscale elegance and cozy comfort. Warm lighting, attentive staff, and the gentle whispers of conversation delivers an inviting atmosphere that set the vibe for the evening.

We started with the creamy garlic prawns with delicious yellow rice which was as beautiful on the plate as it was on the palate. The freshness of the ingredients and the thoughtful balance of flavors showed a clear attention to detail. Thereafter, we ordered the chicken & prawn stir fry noodle which was cooked to perfection with pure freshness, which was heaven to your taste buds. It wouldn’t be right if I don’t mention the drinks. Must get drinks are Iced Milo and Colombar Special Faluda. It just took this dining experience into a whole another level.

Dessert was the standout - my wife and I tried the sizzling choclate brownie and berry cheesecake. Decadent, but not overpowering, which just melts in your mouth. it was the perfect ending to an exceptional meal.

What truly sets colombar apart is its reasonable pricing, consistency and care. Every dish felt crafted, not just cooked. Service was professional and warm, and the staff made excellent wine suggestions throughout the evening.

Excellent restaurant for any occasion. Definitely I will be...

I recently had my birthday dinner at Colombar Richmond with 40+ people, and I just want to say a HUGE thank you to Amanda and the entire team at Colombar who helped make it such a memorable night. You ALL were amazing!

Thank you Amanda for looking after all the big and little details to accommodate us all. Thank you for taking the time to meet with me in person beforehand to talk everything through. It gave me so much confidence and peace of mind going into the night.

From the table layout, cutlery setting, complimentary olives and snacks, to the warm candle lights, every little touch was so thoughtful and made the night feel super special. I also love the classy little tweaks you’ve made inside recently. The decor, lighting and ambience of the restaurant feels so refined and elegant.

The food was absolutely delicious and all of our guests loved their meals (the spice levels were on point!) Your service throughout the night was brilliant too. The entire team were so warm, attentive and clearly took pride in what they did. (They were also super patient with all the orders coming in at once!) And the live music with the band in the background complemented the evening soooo well, it created the perfect vibe.

I couldn’t have asked for a better celebration and night. Thank you again Amanda and team Colombar for going so above and beyond!!

We’ll definitely be back...

UPDATE since original post: Thanks Gayan for the response. It’s unlikely our group will be able to take up your offer any time soon as we only meet every few months, but I appreciate you making the effort to make amends. Arch

Frustrating experience. Booked well in advance to have brunch with a group of people. Received an email confirming the booking. Then, a couple of days ago, I get a text message telling me I’m booked in and asking me to confirm that I’m definitely going ahead with it, to which I confirm. Now the night before at 10.30pm I get a message saying they won’t be open till midday. I call to find out what happened and am told they haven’t done breakfasts for the last three weeks (as though I was somehow supposed to know that). They had failed to properly update and test their online information and booking system. Their breakfast menu was still online at the time that I booked too.

No attempt to make any amends - not even a “Hey, sorry for the hassle we’ve caused you. How about we offer your group complimentary coffees with your next booking?”

Disappointing and unprofessional.

I suppose I should be grateful I found out the night before rather than when our group would’ve arrived tomorrow morning, though if that had happened they’d be getting multiple negative reviews from my group...
