I’ve been a very loyal customer of D’Penyetz for the last 1.5 years I’ve been living in Melbourne. I live around Clayton as such I often come here, sometimes 2-3 times a week to get dinner when I don’t have the time to cook.
I always ordered the Nasi Goreng Ayam Suir. I’ve always advertised to all my friends how the food is amazing and it’s great for value as the portions they gave are huge for the $14-$16 you pay.
In the last 2 weeks, I ordered D’Penyetz Nasi Goreng Ayam Suir four times. Twice at the store and another two times on UberEats/DoorDash. The first time I bought it I noticed the rice was less flavourful and the portion was so small (about 60% of the rice they used to give around February/March this year). They used much less sambal to fry the rice as it’s no longer red it’s a very very pale instead. I thought this was a one off, so I decided to order again for take away. Yet again the same problem, the portion was tiny and the rice was so pale (and taste is not flavourful at all).
Disappointed I decided not to order again until the following week and give them a chance because in the 1.5 years I had eaten there, the last two times were the only disappointing ones.
Hence, on the day I had guests over on two days, I ordered D’Penyetz twice on both days. By now it has become unsurprising how their Nasi Goreng Ayam Suir isn’t up to standard anymore. The rice was pale, lack of sambal flavour anymore and the portion was so small it looked like it was for a primary school child on both occasions. I used to be able to have two meals from one serving and now I can eat the whole thing in one go because they surely reduced the portion sizes.
If you’re a regular, you would probably agree with me how the standard has dropped and how portion sizes have decreased. Sad to say, I don’t think I will be coming back anymore after constant business for years. Every year my university club will give D’Penyetz big business by ordering 230+ servings of their Nasi Ayam Goreng Suir twice a year. With how the standard has dropped, we will probably be using a different caterer from now on as I no longer would want to serve guests small portions of unflavourful rice.
It used to be awesome and I recommended it to everyone and even the club I am VP of. Now it is no...
Read moreTasted authentic, food came out quickly, friendly staff and great for sharing. It was packed but also suitable for large groups if you're willing to wait for a table or go on a quieter day. Would recommend calling to see how busy they are as they don't take bookings and might be really busy. We waited about 20 minutes. Recommend the satay chicken as it was fantastic - so moist and flavourful. Fried chicken was great too - there are 5 spice levels to choose from to suit all tastebuds but the fried chicken itself already has delicious seasoning. If you want extra sambal you have to pay for it. Loved the sweet flavours of meegoreng and yummy pickles. Fried egg was gooey on the inside. We weren't a big fan of the nasi goreng. The Enoki mushrooms are nice to share but very oily. Great selection of cendol and reasonably priced. It was the right amount of sweet for me (not crazy sweet). The latte cendol which was great but my favourite was the regular cendol. You can also order through the QR code but the menu is in Indo so it's good to get the physical menu to understand the menu before you order. Busy atmosphere and suitable...
Read moreBeen a loyal customer since they open their first outlet in Carlton and have been coming to the Clayton branch for the past year. I have always been happy with the flavour & quality of their food although their cendol is another story. Unfortunately the last 3 visits have been a dissapointment. You can really tell the quality has been dropping. Tahu Isi which is my family’s favourite came out nearly burned on all 3 occasions. This one time, the batter even completely came off and they just served it as is with the naked tofu and fallen off batter on the side. The ikan bakar aroma lacked the usual deep flavour and was rather dry. Now on my latest visit for takeaway, the Tahu Isi is burned again. Look, I get that the place is very busy. But you simply can’t serve burned food to a paying customer. I used to highly recommend this place to friends, but unfortunately can’t do that anymore. At least until they address their issue with inconsistencies. If you want to try out this place, try coming at non-busy time so that maybe the quality will improve. When done right, their food’s pretty amazing. Cendol no...
