Couldn't fault it!
New Year's lunch was off with a bang at EasyVegan. Although I expected a more rounded menu with a larger variety of traditional mock meat favourites in Chinese options (Sweet and Sour, Kung Pao etc), the fresh and authentic flavours came through in everything that was served up:
Started with the Peking Duck Pancakes, rice paper rolls, and crispy fillets - the pancakes were awesome, served nice and fresh with just the right amount of flavour, not too bland nor overwhelming. The rice paper rolls were the usual that may be expected from a good Vietnamese chef with a hand for them.
The crispy nuggets, however, I would pass up the next time as they certainly weren't what I expected as compared to what the neighbouring Loving Hut dishes out as their crispy fillets. These were essentially taken out of a Vegefarm packet, deep fried and served with sweet chilli sauce, but nonetheless, this did not deter me from awarding a five-star rating for what was to come:
Mains were the Satay Chicken, another chicken dish, and Spring Roll noodles. All three dishes were outstanding, stood out in favour, serving quantity and ingredients oozing with freshness and flavour.
We will definitely be trying some other dishes on our return, including the chef's Pho and other traditional Vietnamese...

I had mock shrimp rice paper rolls and mock-beef noodles. Other than a splash of pink dye, there was nothing terribly shrimpy here. The “beef” had a familiar chewiness to it, and certainly looked the part. The general flavours weren’t quite there, probably because the ubiquitous fish sauce that is central to so much Vietnamese cuisine was here in spirit only. But the peanut satay dipping sauce was tasty, and the noodle dish satisfied my appetite. I would have enjoyed a beer, but the closest offering appeared to be Heineken Zero.
Our orders were taken by one staff member, but delivered by a much older older gent (the owner?) who clearly hadn’t been informed who had ordered what, and our dishes were delivered at random. No problem, our group of six worked it out amongst ourselves.
Throughout the evening there was a large TV screen noisily broadcasting news in accented English, and at some point the older chap sat down and ate his dinner while watching squawky and quite distracting videos on his phone.
Not terrible, but not...

Peking duck pancake wraps 🌮🌮 'beef' pho🍲🍲 Chicken crispy noodle salad 🥗
The pho is the BEST I have ever tasted. I'm vego now, but I've had real beef phos and this one still tops all of them. On top of that its super healthy! You can see from my bowl that it was yummy, I was super full,, the serving size is good and with all the ingredients in the pho, you have to try!!!! The duck wraps tasted indistinguishable from the real thing. This restaurant really stands out as it has so much flavour in all the dishes and everything looks so fresh and colourful. The chicken noodle was a bit too spicy and rich for me. I probably would get tofu next time.
The lady who served us was such a beautiful human being 😋 next time in Melbourne I will be back! Hope to see...
