Had an absolutely shocking experience in our local Hampton cafe Eclair today. We went there for lunch with my partner and a 15 months old son. Ingmar had several pieces of a croissant, behaved perfectly well and I was praising us on one of the more successful outings to a cafe with a toddler. And then as we were leaving this guy just came at us, and sort of jerked away the high chair and asked me in a super rude voice: "Are you going to clean this crap off the floor?" As this was the first time I've seen him I wasn't even sure if he worked there or was some local psycho and the waitress standing next to me said apologetically: "Don't worry he's talking to me, not to you". Turned out this guy was the owner. And I'm pretty sure he was talking to me based on what followed. I looked at the floor and there was a piece of croissant that Ingmar threw on the floor, a small fork and maybe some crumbs. On a scale of a mess 15-month old Ingmar is capable of making it was about 2/10. And I would understand if the owner was upset that Ingmar was scaring away customers, but for one thing he was actually pretty happy the entire time, has his organic tube of food, played with a book, never left his high chair so hardly a toddler on the loose. And the cafe was pretty much empty except for us, so well done on losing more customers. But I wouldn't be writing about this if he left it at this. He didn't. He continued shouting something about leaving crap on the floor, and how maybe we'd prefer going to Sebastians (another local cafe) because they put up with this crap (he used strainer language too, trip advisor doesn't allow it in reviews). And after we already started walking off in a stunned silence, he decided to yell to us that he hopes we wouldn't come back. We of course yelled back that we won't, but I was considering calling police at him at this point for harassment!
Avoid Eclair in Hampton like plague. The owner is an absolutely horrible human being, I feel sorry for their staff. It's not just not child friendly, the owner clearly hates children and possibly the rest...
Read moreDecent coffee, horrid overpriced pies ($15 each) not to mention being initially told i cant use the bathroom because customers arnt allowed (even though they have a sign advertising the fact they have facilities..if you dont want customers using it maybe remove the sign) and if i wanted my pies heated up or not? Who wants to eat a cold pie?? Then once i said well if i cant use the toilet ill probably not want to wait for them to be heated up, im told i can now use the toilet...so i go to the bathroom, only to return to a locked door. After 5 minutes of knocking i literally had to call the cafe to get them to let me back in...after being handed my coffees and given a dismissive and quick heres your coffees thanks, bye. I have regretfully made the decision that i will infact not be returning here in the forseeable future. 15 years of working in hospitality and ive never seen something...
