“Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away; for lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away. for your voice is sweet, and your face is comely.”
There is an unmistakable sound found in the back courtyard of Eeny Meeny. It is an unassuming and at times crowded courtyard, with many potted plants, and below a great mirror that accents the back wall, one may find a pond of fish that man and child alike can find delight in. This sound can only be heard in the morning in bouts of contemplation and sipping: the delightful patter; the muffled squarks. Arise, oh my head to the heavens, and behold, the visage of many webbed feet prancing around on the opaque rooftop. Such an image brings much delight to the heart. As do the staff.
I've been visiting Eeny Meeny with great regularity for some time now. I am a regular, I have a usual drink, a usual spot. The staff are delightful and will stop to make talk no matter how fast or slow the day is proceeding. I know many of their names, they stop me in the street to say hello. I sold the chef his glasses. They're holding up pretty well I believe. They are the best Frankston has to offer. Warm, hardworking, and nice.
If you can, sit in the courtyard and observe the guls above. If it's sunny, you may also sit outside. The slow ritual of morning drink juxtaposes niceley with the bustle of frankston, and much peoplewatching can be done.
The bean employed I believe is somebody's favorite, although I find it only servacable. It still produces a well above standard espresso, which has always in the writer's experiences been accompanied by a sidecar of sparkling water. This small grace is entirely underappreciated by the general public, and yet Eeny Meeny continues to do the right thing by me and serve, never flat: always bubbly, a lovely little sidecar of sparkling water without my having to request it.
I only regret that I cannot smoke my tobacco pipe in the outdoors area. This is not at all Eeny Meny’s fault, the shop is located in a ‘smoke free zone’ in frankston that the writer is lobbying to have abolished. Alas, I will have to continue smoking at lighthouses, on boats, and in taphouses like the old sailor I...
Read moreOn Saturday I found myself in the gateway to the Mornington Peninsula, Frankston!
As it was morning, I was after some sustenance to start my day off right and had heard of an out of the way cafe, Eeny Meeny. Parking on Young street, I strolled roughly 100m to my degustation destination.
Upon arrival I was warmly welcomed and asked where I would like to sit. Eeny Meeny has 3 options, inside, street side and, my choice, their beer garden.
Once seated, my server enquired as to my drink of choice as I perused their menu. I received my latte quickly worth some table water. This Full fat mug of latte was served at a very drinkable temperature, and had an ever so slightly nutty flavour to it, which pleased my taste buds to no end.
I decided that I would try their egg and bacon roll, which I would have accompanied by a potato waffle.
The egg and bacon came out served in a ciabatta style roll, with a smear of bbq sauce. The bacon was endless, meaty and slightly crispy, the egg, cooked sunny side up, perfectly cooked with a runny yolk and not a hint of undercooked white, a mastery of egg cooking. These were perfectly accompanied with the Smokey, slightly sweet and not overly sour BBQ sauce, which delighted my taste buds.
Do yourselves a favour, next time you’re in Frankston town, find this delightful cafe. I know I’ll be back to try more of their delightful food, I may even be tempted by their array of cakes and...
