Based on the google photos I entered the place having readied myself to have a serve of pecan or sticky date pie. In the absence of these things, however, I settled on a plain croissant. After an ordering mix up (partly my fault and partly not), though, I ended up having a non-plain, savoury croissant and long black, for which I paid a somewhat extravagant (especially without weekend or public holiday loading) $11.50. My first time at the establishment (a largish, apparently converted auto repair shop or ex showroom of some kind with high ceilings), I found the décor pleasing to the eye and the ambience (a large part of which was the in-house music - the same 10 seconds of jungle music looped ad nauseum and played quite loudly) conducive to solo concentration, if not to conversation. Tucked away down a side street, though, one would locate it only by chance (perhaps through an exercise walk or on a general google maps café search) or through word of local mouth. I would be prepared to return some time in the future, perhaps earlier in the morning when a coffee and croissant goes down the...
Read moreif you drink tea don't bother, $6.06 for a measured 200 ml cup (apparently it looks tiny) and a side of milk, and no chance of deciding on your own brew strength. , It's $5.50 in the menu so was I charged 56c for the milk or was this a surcharge for using eftpos? The guy who served me was nice, not his fault, but but If the owners really are worried about space being taken up by pesky tea drinkers with pots of tea I suppose it works, because I won't be back again! Also the bagels are definitely over priced, $24 for a big brekky bagel, when an actual big brekky elsewhere is probably the same price! definite thumbs down
addendum: turns out in the very small print at the the bottom of the menu there is a 10% surcharge for weekends, according to the ACCC this has to be at least as large as the most prominent price on the menu, and I didn't see it posted anywhere else in the cafe... I ordered at the counter and didn't have a menu to look at! I posted a pic of the menu, see if you would...
Read moreCorrection is necessary. 4 years ago they were the best, now they sadly make you feel unwelcome and like you should question your very own existence.
Whilst a couple of staff are friendly, there's 2 to 3 that just hate being there and make it very clear you're inconveniencing their day by ordering coffee.
I'm not sure if its being surrounded in the woke bubble that is Collingwood with its socialist ideology, but it seems the staff just deplore having to serve people. Even socialism needs workers darling, coffee doesn't serve itself.
Oh, and don't dare question the accidental application of a weekend surcharge on a weekday - your change will be thrown into your hand so hard your fingers break.
This is sad, because a few staff across this and the city store make it a pleasurable day.
