When a friend recommended we visit Faradays Cage I got excited because all I’ve heard is some amazing things about this cafe/bakery.

So off I went. I was greeted by a lovely waitress who offered me a table and the rest of my visit was exceptional.

I ordered the chilli scrambled after seeing it hit the table next to me. Ok thats easy, I’ll have that one lol. My scrambled eggs were silky, light and fluffy, my crispy bacon really well cooked, I also enjoyed the curry leaves on top w some saffron and some yummy sourdough bread. Just delicious!

My dining partner Split The Bill ordered some corn and zucchini fritters w a poached egg and house cured salmon. That dish was equally as good, w everything working together perfectly.

The menu is great, it’s not too complicated but the choices are soo good it’s difficult to decide, well for some people haha.

And as this cafe is also a bakery we tried test of the pastries hihi. This might sound funny but I had my first chocolate cronut at Faradays cage. The cronut was full of a creamy mixture, in a crispy pastry, w some chocolate on top. OMGosh I’ve been missing out here. It was absolutely delectable hahaha and gone in minutes!

We also shared some mini fruit pastries and the crispy light almost croissant buttery pastry was perfect for me.

And the coffees were so good we had 2 each. My strong skinny lattes were very good, and the cappuccinos... gone in no time.

This cafe was an absolute hidden gem, just off Johnston Street In Fitzroy, in a converted warehouse, and in my humble opinion,...

7 September 1210pm my husband and I were hoping to try Faradays. We saw the long queue of patrons outside and standing inside and decided to go in to see how long the wait would be. We were only attended to by a staff 5min later, and she explained that there is understandably a wait list. She took our name and contact details and said that the wait will be about 5 mins. We decided to wait as we saw at least 3 empty tables. And wait we did, due to the small confined space inside crowded with standing waiting patrons, we decided to wait outside by another emtpy table for 2. A few minutes later 2 patrons walk by and place their name down on the wait list, and decided to wait by sitting at the empty table outside. A waitress came to take their order, to which the patron replied that they have just arrived and they are waiting their turn. The waitress said she would go in and check if they can have that table, she came back in no more than 2 minutes and said that " I have checked and you may have this table". We approached the waitress and clarified that we were sure that we had arrived first, she just gave us a stumped/shocked face and said unapologetically that she'll check. We decided to take our leave with only disappointment in our stomachs. Please reconsider how you organise your tables, and improve communication...

I came to this cafe over the weekend and had what was easily one of the worst customer service experiences. My friend and I ordered an almond cappuccino and an iced cold brew.

The cappuccino arrived LUKEWARM with the milk separating from the coffee. Both my friend and I tried it, and the milk tasted kinda off/ it had a strange aftertaste.

I was served a tiny mug that barely held any liquid because it was packed with ice. I politely asked the staff why I was being served a small amount of cold brew in that tiny mug. (If you want to be a quirky cafe at least have a larger mug), everyone else's coffee mugs were double the size of mine.

The server gave me a sarcastic look and asked if I wanted her to pour the drink into the water glass on our table. Confused, I explained that the problem was the cold brew to ice and mug ratio. She then asked if she should dilute the drink with tap water ?? lmao??

I told her that I just wanted a normal-sized cold brew, not watered-down. She then had an attitude and grabbed a larger glass, dumped what little cold brew was in the mug into it, spilled half of it on the table, said whoopsie, and filled the rest with tap water.

At that point, we decided we were not going to waste our time ordering food. This is one of the worst cafes in Melbourne. If I could give 0...

It's places like this that set the high standard for Melbourne's competitive scene. I received such a friendly greeting on entry and could see the on-site bakery in action. The menu is a good size balance between having choice without being overwhelmed. The sauteed mushrooms were deliciously seasoned with truffle oil, combined with pumpkin puree, part-melted provolone cheese, a poached egg and a crispy polenta chip on a thick slice of house made brioche. That piece of brioche was so, so good. The sprinkling of crushed hazelnuts was genius! It gave the dish an exciting twist that I couldn't help but notice. The hot chocolate was the good quality kind - not too sweet and the right level of creaminess - big tick in my book. The high ceilings and artistically decorated walls provide many aesthetic focal points. Staff were smiling and friendly throughout. It was 2.30pm by the time I left and they offered a free baguette. It was almost end of the day for them and the staff didn't want to throw anything out. Donations to homeless shelters / soup kitchens? A place worth a returning visit to check out their fresh pastries.
