Flame Greek Tavern — Restaurant in Melbourne

We came in for dinner on Friday. Lots of people grabbing take aways which is a good sign. Besides the dated decor we were pleasantly surprised with the food. We ordered the set menu for two. The dips were a generous serve we loved the creamy tzatziki and tarama. Next the saganaki was fresh and crispy yum! The mixed grill of lamb and chicken was a very generous portion served with vegetables and Greek salad with creamy fetta. We loved the smell of the hot coals coming through to the dining area. The sweets, tea and coffee were such a treat at the end, the baklava was Divine. Flame is an absolute local institution - if you haven’t been yet, you’re missing out! Everything on the menu is delicious and it’s so nice to have a local takeaway option that is just like home-cooked food. Sophie, Harry, Plaire and the team are friendly and know their locals. I love the decor and the fact that it hasn’t changed recently - truly vintage. It is accessible for people with mobility needs, and is nice and quiet if you’re dining with someone who prefers calm environments. We just had Flame for my birthday dinner at home. I have been craving proper Greek home style cooking for so long and it was absolutely exceptional. I had the Moussaka and it was the best Moussaka I have ever eaten. Along with vegetables, it was a huge serving. Everyone loved the dips and whitebait as well. Everything was delicious.
