Health warning: First time we ate here my gluten-free sandwich was served on normal bread. After a long wait, my correct meal was provided, just as my family finished theirs. There was so much oil in the 'roasted vegetables' that it continuously ran down my forearms as I ate the tiny sandwich. Soon after I was ill. Today, our fave cafe was closed, so I reluctantly agreed to give Glasshouse another go as my hungry family begged for lunch. Our daughters' (expensive) toasties came first, then Husband I waited 10 minutes for ours to arrive. When finally presented with my sandwich, I asked the server (whom I had ordered with) if the sandwich she had handed me was gluten free. "Yes, it is," she stated emphatically. I questioned her as my bread was the same as all the other (soughdough) sandwiches on the table. "Yes, it is definitely gluten-free", she stated, though I sensed she wasn't really sure at this point. "Are you sure?" I asked. "Yes" was her assertion. We stared at the sandwich, comparing breads for a minute before I went inside to ask the man who made the sandwich if it was gluten free. Funnily enough, it wasn't. 🤦♀️ When the girl finally delivered my tiny, expensive sandwich, she said "I'm sorry I got confused with your order". Really? She repeated gluten free as I asked for it. Then, she lied three times that the meal she handed me met my dietary requirements, without care for the consequences. Do not bother trying this place. If the expensive food does not make you sick, their disregard for your dietary needs will. And there...
Read moreMy partner and I visited this cafe on a rainy Saturday morning, drawn in by its charming decor and inviting look. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we had hoped for. Despite the cafe not being busy, with multiple staff members behind the counter and wandering around, we were completely ignored.
We stood at the entry waiting to be seated, and though one staff member looked right at us, she walked away without a word. After standing there for a while and noticing plenty of empty tables and bored-looking staff, we decided to seat ourselves. Even then, no one acknowledged us.
As we sat there, we saw staff members doing nothing productive—one was even sipping her coffee just across from us. No one brought us water, menus, or took our coffee orders. After a while, we got up and grabbed a menu ourselves, only to find that the offerings were minimal and unappealing.
We gave the staff one last chance to engage with us, but when that didn't happen, we decided to leave. Just two doors down, we found another cafe where we enjoyed an epic brunch with some of the best service we've experienced in a long time.
Upon reading other reviews of this place after we left, it seems that our experience was not unique. My only regret is not...
Read moreWanted decaf soy latte and white tea with 2 sugars. Order taken but staff very clear that they would be closing in 5 minutes. One elderly old dear came in and wanted hot drink, staff made it clear they would be closing in couple of minutes. Poor befuddled gentlemen tried to appeal to them but to no avail. Really. They couldn't take couple of minutes to make his order? Coffee nice but when she was pouring milk into tea i asked her if she could please stir it. She replied she had, yes before she put the milk in it. Also i was given small coffee while my husband received large tea. Size was never specified. We were just told it had to be takeaway. Unbelievable. Jan 2023. Walking from carpark to Hampton Street pass the extraordinary mess at the back of Glasshouse. Perhaps they could put up some screening? 5.6. Called in to get soy latte and toasted cheese sandwich. Bread was really nice but filling was bland so they should either change cheese to tasty or add pesto for example. Only ate half as saw they had scones and couldn't resist! 31.7 delicious roasted vegetable toastie. Pigeon came in to taste their...
