PSA - Beware of the staff intentionally adding up the total dishes ordered inaccurately when you go to the counter to pay.
They WILL try to rob you of an extra plate or two, no doubt. I am a regular customer here simply because the rest of my family enjoys the food, however I would personally NEVER eat here on my own accord because they heinously attempt to make you pay for MORE than what you actually ordered unless you call them out on their shady practice.
In every single visit of our last 3 visits, they have added an additional dish (most expensive one) to the total count, despite the order sheet clearly showing how many plates we ordered. Our visits totals to over $250 on average as a family, so they must think that one additional dish to the total won't be detected by us. This is a disgusting shady practice. We called them out every single time, and they nonchalantly "fix" the total as if they knew exactly what they just tried to pull off.
It baffles me that they have the audacity to try scam us even though the number of plates is clearly marked on the order sheet for us to easily cross reference. Do they think every customer is dumb and lazy that we can't spot the extra dish they added to the total? Probably.
To everyone, take a look and double check if they counted the dishes correctly before paying. Don't let these numerically illiterate people take a single dollar more from you. I can't imagine how much money they have scammed out of their customers who don't cross check their order sheet against their totalled count. The people doing the counting should honestly be put back in grade 1 and re-do their education if they weren't miscalculating the number of dishes intentionally.
TL;DR - the staff intentionally tried to scam us by adding a few extra dishes to the total 3 out of 3 visits (baffling), and they're probably doing it to everyone as well. Count your dishes, dispute their miscalculations and don't visit here if you...
Read moreToday, we ate Gold Leaf Springvale for lunch. This is one of those places, where it brings many childhood memories. This is also my first time reviewing Gold Leaf Springvale. Service was not bad. Servers were friendly, great communication between workers. Great leadership towards servers and workers, great morale which motivated every member. However, some lacked a bit of attention, when the customer finds a food they want to try or eat. Still, it was amazing to see great delivery of food to customer, and a few actually know Vietnamese. Though, the Yum Cha delicacy remains the same, as always. Same standards, and flavours. Still giving the same presentation and flavour profiles, as expected in Yum Cha. There were many foods we got to try. A great variety of them. Majority of the food we tried, seemed pretty decent and the same, as always. However, there were some dishes that dropped those same standards, as it was before. Despite the cost being expensive than what most buffets cost nowadays, I'm still proud that it's still open till now. We also order some takeaway food. I tried the Salt & Pepper Pork. It had a nice colour. Light crunchy coating. Seasoning was reasonably good. Pork, tender. The fried shallots are not too oily, but had a nice colour, and texture, which goes well with the pork. What I respect from this place, is that the atmosphere and tradition of Yum Cha, remains the same, despite having a few standards drop in some foods. It's still a place that I would come back, once in a while, when I have family gatherings. So if you're in Springvale, and you like Yum Cha, try this place once, with...
Read moreWe've been going to Gold Leaf Springvale for nearly 20 years. It was our go to place for yum cha at least twice a month as a family. We used to queue up happily to just get a seat, that's how good this place was. For the last 3 years, we've been slowly cutting back on Yum Cha, perhaps to once a month and now we're probably going there once every 3 months or so. Many reasons - cost of living increase, but more specifically quality of food and then the price creep. We went again on Sunday as a table of 3 and this visit prompted my review. Since when can it be acceptable to be charged $17.90 for a plate of 3 fried prawn rice paper rolls? The cheapest option was charged at $10.90 - 3 siu mai? We weren't that hungry on Sunday so we ate a lot less than usual - we had 7 plates plus Chinese tea and the bill was $158.20. I did not realise this at the time as my wife paid for the docket at the front counter but now I clearly know we've been cheated. I felt like there were new faces in "managers" walking around - so if its new owners/management then this is the one time you'd get us scammed. You've lost the very customer that has been loyal for over two decades. Shame on you! If its still the original owners/management then please have a good hard look at yourselves - where are the queues outside waiting to be seated, why it the restaurant half empty at 1pm on a Sunday? My Sunday visit tells me it's going to get...
