We've heard this place many times and recommended from our friends living close to Springvale. Hoa Tran situated in the rear side of Springvale market, it's hidden gem restaurant. The restaurant is always busy all the time. We went there not even the peak hour at around 4.30 PM to avoid the long queue, but still restaurant was full. Luckily, we didn't really have to wait for long time.

The restaurant has plenty seats available and spacious. Doesn't matter whether you come by yourself, small or big group, they'll manage to find the table for you. The customer staffs were very attentive and speedy.

We ordered: Com tam dac biet (broken rice) for $11.50. (Broken rice with pork chop, fried egg, shredded pork, egg cake) The broken rice was absolutely amazing and the best compared to other places. We've tried most of Vietnamese restaurants in other well known suburbs for Vietnamese cuisine such as North Richmond and Footscray. Personally, no other restaurants can compare Hoa Tran for the broken rice in terms of the value and taste.

The pork chop was perfectly grilled, not greasy and tender. Shredded pork and egg cake had balance taste and well seasoned. Overall, we're very satisfied with this dish. Very recommended!!!

Bun cha Gio (vermicelli noodles) for $11.00. (Spring rolls served with vermicelli & salad) We added shredded pork on top of the spring rolls noodles for $2.00. The spring rolls were served fresh, crunchy and well fried. As described above, the shredded pork had really great taste, well seasoned and not oily. Portion served was generous - really well spent for additional $2.00. The taste of vermicelli noodle dish had above average compared to other Vietnamese restaurants we've tried.

Overall, we had a great time having dinner here and both dishes were scrumptious.

I was disappointed in the quality of my meal and the service of the staff. My father in law said that I shouldn't have ordered BBQ pork as it is not a vietnamese dish but I think that if it is on the menu it should be good. It was dry and the flavour was not very good. The tapioca pearls in the bubble tea were quite hard. Either they had been left out too long or they hadn't been cooked long enough. Everyone else was happy with their meals. Half of our party 10+ people arrived maybe 20 minutes later than the first half which we felt sorry for. The first half ordered first and the staff were hovering around to whisk our meals away as soon as we put our chopsticks down. We felt pressured to eat faster and leave. The wait staff asked me if I'd finished when I was just having a break from eating. The same thing happened to the other half of the party. My husband and I ended up waiting outside for a little bit because we felt like the staff were trying to get rid of us. The ones that arrived later ate very quickly and got the rest put in takeaway boxes as we all felt a bit pressured to leave. We were probably there for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

We tried not to overstay our welcome and we feel that we didn't take an excessive amount of time to eat. We would have happily sat in the upstairs section but they said that they weren't opening...

Stalwart of Springvale 🏆

Here for ages and delighting generations with an extensive menu comprising of more than 300 Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Cambodian dishes, drinks and desserts.

My fav place for black bean beef with rice noodles. Massive serve. Expertly tossed with tenderized beef slices, onions, capsicums, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots and that bodacious crack sauce. Topped with chilli, this will put hair on your chest and beans in your engine.

Special mention for the salt & pepper chicken ribs and spring rolls that’s always a hit with the clan.

With a well oiled kitchen and multiple turbo-blasted woks in unison, service is always quick but never rushed. You’re in good hands with Hoa Tran. Enjoy!

2024 update

Resto has been renovated and upstairs is much more pleasant now especially if you have big geoups of up to 12 per table.

Service runs with army precision, and the warmth of well trained staff who know every single item on the extensive menu by heart.

Matriarch still runs the till and head boy is back on the floor.

All dishes (individual serves and shared) for our 12 pax table came within 10 minutes and all in quick succession - piping hot and tasty as always. This during a weekend lunch crunch was particularly impresssive.

It’s small wonder that they’re still around and stronger than...

Edited: Came back and had their roast duck noodle soup. Portion is big, nice broth. Duck isn’t the crispiest I’ve had but still ok, has nice sauce underneath. This place is a bit hidden in the small alley. I went because I heard good things about it. The place was two storey, so lots of tables. We went in not long after queuing outside for about 5 mins, this is on a Saturday 1.30pm, so I assume at lunch time it would be so long queue. Menu is really big, it was a bit overwhelming trying to pick what to eat. Most rice/noodle dishes are about $18. Food came out pretty quickly. Tried their broken rice with pork chop dish and fried chicken ribs. Both came with little soup that has a little bit of veggies in it, but taste was very mild- too plain for me. Portion is quite big. I like their chicken ribs, it was very crispy outside and moist inside. They gave sweet chili sauce on the side but I needed chili oil for a bit of oomph. Their pork chop was crispy too but a bit plain on the taste for me. Egg soda was nice. Overall ok, but not wowed by the foods. Might come back to try something different but unsure.
