Discovered a charming little hidden cafe known as @goldenmug_melbourne in CBD, cleverly nestled within the Novotel building (they have no affiliation with the hotel.. just a very convenient location 😊).

We tried: The Big Breakfast that lives up to its name, offering a hearty feast of scrambled eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, avocado, bacon, chorizo, hash browns, haloumi, feta, and toast.

The Egg Royal is a delight with perfectly poached eggs, smoked salmon, and a delectable hollandaise sauce, served on toast.💯

If you're in the mood for something savoury, the Chorizo Omelette is a delightful choice. It features eggs, chorizo, diced tomatoes, onions, feta, and spinach, accompanied by toast.

Don't miss out on their perfectly toasted ham and cheese croissant 🥐 with gooey melted cheese.. among other ready to go selections on display.. great choices when you need a quick take away.. 👍🏻

Their menu extends far beyond breakfast, offering a diverse selection. Whether you're seeking something fast to-go, want to indulge in some decadent cakes or yummy muffins, or you're interested in exploring their extensive dine-in menu, this cafe has something for everyone. And if it's just a coffee fix you're after, rest assured their friendly staff will take excellent care of you. My youngest always asks for babycino, and they didn't have any marshmallows. Carlos, the owner, went the extra mile to customise his drink with Oreos and M&Ms (you can imagine the smile on his face). Mommy approves this...

Hi there, I’m just another regular customer who has been coming to this café for years, including during the very tough COVID period. I have to say, this review feels very unfair and far from what I’ve seen.

The ownership here has always been professional, kind and extremely supportive of staff. People who are not in a position of ownership often don’t understand the pressures and responsibilities that come with running a business – especially in hospitality. It’s easy to judge from the outside, but unless you’ve been in that situation, it’s not fair to make assumptions.

These days, many workers also take advantage of businesses, and sometimes things get taken out of context. A manager giving instructions or correcting mistakes is not “belittling” staff – it’s simply running a business. I constantly see the owner work hard alongside his team and support them, and he always shows respect to customers.

Reviews should be honest and fair, based on the food, service and experience – not personal opinions or exaggerations. This café has great food, a welcoming atmosphere and works hard every day to look after both staff...

Meal @ Golden Mug Cafe. . Observed this place to be fairly popular, with a good number of people stopping by in the morning to grab breakfast and coffee. Decided to try dining at the Golden Mug Cafe myself. . Ambience at Golden Mug Cafe is cozy and rustic, with furnishings closely packed together in the small area. . Service at Golden Mug Cafe is cheerful and polite, with staff happily working to fulfill orders. . Food at Golden Mug Cafe has both Italian and Australian cuisine influences, making use of fresh ingredients. Portions are nicely sized for individuals. . The Coffee Magic (AUD $5), a double ristretto shot pulled into a 160 ml cup, then topped up with steamed milk, has a good strength of body without being overly milky, carrying fragrant aroma of roasted coffee beans. With a smoky earthy flavour, their version of coffee magic here is pretty good. .
