IS THIS PLACE REALLY HALAL?
I have been unsure of the halal status of this place for some time now. I’m hesitant to go back at this point because I can’t verify 100% if it’s fully halal or just halal friendly. The distinction being that a fully halal restaurant cares for the halal status of all ingredients (including sauces and condiments) ensuring they don’t contain haram ingredients like alcohol or animal derived ingredients (from non halal meats). Whereas a halal friendly restaurant only cares for the halal status of the meat and does not look at the halal permissibility of the other ingredients used.
In the two previous occasions that I have been to this restaurant, when I have asked to see the halal certificate instead of showing a printed copy I have been shown a very unclear digital copy on a mobile phone. On one occasion the waitress went on to her WhatsApp and scrolled a group chat for ages before showing me an image of what appeared to be a halal certificate. The only thing was it wasn’t very clear if it was for the restaurant itself and didn’t seem to have a date of expiry. For all I knew they could have gotten this certificate from Google Images. At the time I accepted it as fine and went on to dine there but began to some doubts afterwards.
With halal influencers claiming this place as halal, I feel like the only reason Muslim customers think this place is halal is because of word of mouth recommendations and seeing other muslims comfortably eating in the restaurant. I don’t believe it has anything to do with anyone taking the due diligence to actually check if it’s true.
I understand the pull. The food here on the two occasions I’ve tried is extremely delicious. This is why I write this post. I love this place and I want to be able to eat here and enjoy the food with my heart and mind free from doubts. Is there anyway the owner is able to clarify the halal status? Is there a proper Halal Certificate that we could view for clarification? I would really...
Read more@happylambmelbourne is the perfect restaurant for those who don’t eat pork or beef. Because @happylambmelbourne is where you will find an all lamb only hotpot besides very handful of beef options. We also kept our hotpot spread to lamb only and some seafood and greens.
We opted for the zero spicy yet the most flavourful and peaceful hotpot soup base ever, that is the traditional bone broth. Made of beef and chicken bone for over 6 hours with lots of lovely herbal spices and chestnut, to give that calming feel to it.
We chose the Premium Fresh Shredded Lamb slices, Happy Lamb Signature slices and we got to witness how in the kitchen they make these slices to a perfection. The quality of the lamb is supreme, that is very evident from it’s melt-in-the-mouth and oh-so-tender feel inside the mouth. We also had Fresh Handmade Cuttlefish, Fresh handmade Lamb meatballs, vegetable tray, fish tofu and handmade fresh noodles. Everything tasted simply amazing and yum. Especially the meatballs and the cuttlefish. Strongly recommended.
We also had grilled lamb ribs, simply divine and so juicy and feels like they have used the best quality of lamb to prepare this. Must try.
And their homemade fresh plum juice is also another must try in this restaurant. Such a refreshing and beautiful drink compliments well with the hotpot.
I’d definitely visit again to try their lamb hotpot since it’s so unique yet so fantastic and a tasty experience overall. The service is super duper fast, and the team of staff are such helpful, kind and polite people. The best part, their hotpot price is very standard and affordable. They also have set hotpot for 2/4 people which is again very reasonable as well.
Although it’s super hot now, but you in know Melbourne, it can get so cold in a blink of an eye, and then you’ll crave for some hotpot. So do checkout @happylambmelbourne the newly opened lamb exclusive hotpot in the heart of...
Read moreFive stars? I demand a sixth. Happy Lamb Hot Pot didn’t just feed me — it transformed me.
From the second I stepped through the doors, I was transported to a broth-based nirvana. The aroma hit me like a warm hug from a soup-scented deity. I swear, the air here is 40% collagen and 60% joy. If steam could talk, it would whisper, “Welcome home, hungry traveler.”
Let’s talk about the broth. No — let’s sing about the broth. The house special bone broth? A liquid miracle. It tastes like someone distilled centuries of ancestral wisdom and love into a golden elixir. I dipped a slice of lamb into it, and for a brief, shimmering moment, I saw the universe. The mushroom broth? So earthy and complex, I’m convinced it’s brewed in a mystical forest by woodland creatures with culinary degrees.
Now, the meats. Ohhh, the meats. They’re sliced so thin and perfect, I briefly considered proposing to the beef brisket. And the lamb? Tender, succulent, and possibly divine. If Zeus ate hot pot, this would be his protein of choice.
The staff? Absolute angels. Not once did they judge me for the sheer volume of food I ordered. In fact, they encouraged it. They refilled my broth like attentive potion masters, always appearing at the exact moment my pot needed more soul.
And the experience — pure theater. Steam rising like an edible fog machine, bubbling cauldrons at every table, the chorus of happy slurps and sizzling platters — it’s dinner and a show, but the show is you becoming a better version of yourself.
By the end of the meal, I was full, yes — but also emotionally fulfilled, spiritually realigned, and possibly glowing. I left Happy Lamb Hot Pot not just satisfied, but reborn. If eating here isn’t on your bucket list, rewrite your bucket list.
Do yourself a favor: cancel your plans, gather your people, and run — don’t walk — to Happy Lamb. And when you get there, tell the broth I...
