Heads & Tails Elwood — Restaurant in Melbourne

Living close by I have eaten here twice and found it ho hum and expensive. Today I had an experience so horrendous and upsetting here, I had to download this app to write about it. My two young boys were in the lovely bookstore next-door when my eldest (5) needed the restroom urgently. The sweet woman helping us directed us to a toilet down the street. As I gathered up my 2 year old, my 5 year old ran ahead and slipped into this restaurant as he was familiar with it from our past dinners. He was already in the bathroom when I arrived. I went back and was helping him wash hands when the OWNER began banging on the door and screaming "lady get out". I came out and attempted to explain how my son had mistakenly slipped into this restaurant and would gladly have apologized but he began screaming at me " this is not a public restroom" "get out get out get out!" And "run out of here right now". I tried to say we have eaten here several times and hence the error, but he was in a mad rage. I was terrified, my boys were scared and I am still upset one hour later. I have never in my life encountered a situation like this. Let alone over something as small as a child mistakenly using a toilet. The only customers at the lunch hour were appalled. If this had been an employee, I would have requested a meeting with the owner, and lodged a formal complaint. Not being Australian, I am not aware of what further steps I can take in this instance. If anyone does know, I would absolutely move forward with an official complaint / report of gross misconduct on the part of this horrible individual. I am devastated that my children had to witness this man's vitriol directed at them. There is no excuse for this owners behaviour. I strongly urge others to consider these and other reviews on here prior to supporting this man's business. The other restaurants on this street have been nothing but helpful, kind...

I went in (midweek) for a quick lunch with my 2 kids - 1yr and 2.5yr old - ordered and paid. $18 for 1 piece of fish & some chips for us to share. The lady brought the meal and told me the cutlery was over there .... and when i asked if I could please have a glass of water?- she told me it was down the back and I had to help myself. The kids were sitting in the window - door open, I couldn't go up the back, out of sight,so I didn't get any. Another customer came in with a walker/zimmer - (seemed as a security measure) she parked it & walked ably to the counter down back & ordered. The woman came with her order, cutlery and a glass of water. I made a comment to her as to why she brings 1 person these things and not the other - she started yelling at me, telling me it was obvious - because she's in a wheelchair.....etc yell yell, rant As I piled the boys into the car a customer who was in there said it's not uncommon aparently these guys are known to be super rude. She checked if I was ok, and the other lady with walker apologised I had to go through that. Weird cranky woman! Overpriced food, that really isn't...

I would give less than 1 star if I could!!! The owner is unbelievably rude, I will never step foot in this restaurant after my encounter with him. I was sitting on their seats at the front of the restaurant for no longer than 2 minutes whilst waiting for the shop next door to open and YES I admit I didn't have a right to sit there as I hadn't purchased anything from Heads & Tails but the way in which the owner spoke to me when asking me to get off his seats was absolutely appalling! I would've happily moved if he wasn't so rude and completely arrogant, demanding I move, no please or thank you, just a very abrupt 'get off my seats, if you aren't eating here you can't sit here' (mind you it was 9:55am so there wasn't a single soul in sight who's seat I could potentially be taking up).... I will never ever give this business a single $ of mine and will ensure I tell every person who asks for my recommendations for places to eat around Elwood to completely avoid Head & Tails. Not sure how someone like that can own a business that is based on customer service, mind...
