The place has been an institution for many years. Regardless of what time you go, the joint is always rocking with the sounds of people ordering their food and the staff working wonders to have your order ready. Eating-in seats are limited but may be an option to wait, if you’re driving from far away.

The absolute King of the place is the Adana Kebab. What is it you ask? It’s minced lamb with a small amount of veggies and spices on a flat metal skewer expertly cooked over charcoal. The best order is the Adana Kebab wrap with the sumac infused onions and salad. Ask for a small sprinkling of chilli flakes. No garlic sauce, please. It doesn’t work.

The staff are welcoming and very efficient. They look busier than a one armed bricklayer in Baghdad. I’m continually amazed how orders are always correct and exactly what we order. Cash payment is king. Don’t be a hero and waste your time or theirs with requests to pay for your order with a credit card or smartphone.

Here’s my top 3 things to try, if you haven’t had the pleasure of eating from Katik.

The Adana Kebab. It should be mandatory with each visit or order. If you go there and don’t order one is like going to the MCG during the footy season on a Wednesday morning to watch the grass grow. What’s the point of going there? The 8th wonder of the world.

Kiymali Pide or otherwise known in other parts as the pesky Lahmacun (Turkish pizza). It’s lamb mince and veggies on a thin layer of dough cooked whilst you wait. They are made to order. You’ll kick yourself and wonder why never had one before in your lifetime.

The Hummus dip they have on display, has to be the best home made dip anywhere. Grab a tub or three to take home or the office and you’ll thank me later. Don’t forget to buy some Pide (Turkish bread) with the hummus dip.

Once you’ve tried the aforementioned trio, you can then try the other items on the menu at your leisure. If you’re after a 5 star rated Michelin restaurant, then this not the place for you, but if value your taste buds and want to take it to higher levels, then I highly recommend this place for any food connoisseurs rite of passage, smack bang in the middle of the Northern Suburbs. Afiyet olsun (bon...

I heard this place was good, and when I saw those curtains flapping over the doors; I knew it was going to be legit.

I found this place on YouTube, but not how you think. This was the kebab shop that everyone said, "I can't believe you never visited Katik." After someone attempted to visit Melbourne's best kebab shops. I'm not a YouTuber or an influencer. I just love ethnic food and banging coffee.

We were in a bit of a rush, so I didn't take much video footage, unfortunately. We just wanted to dine in and smash the food. I ordered the adana plate, and my friend ordered the mixed plate.

The food was cooked fresh, the mixed plate was quality döner meat and chicken, really tasty. I had never had an adana. It was something completely new to me. It was lamby, meaty, savoury, with capsicum flakes and other spices. The juices soaked into the bread, and it was honestly really delicious. The meat was good alone, but when those juices soak into the break and you wrap it up, it's absolutely banging. Salads were fresh, the sides were tasty, and the star was the adana, though. It's totally new to me and very, very enjoyable.

We sat outside, classic suburb action. Takeaway chairs, trains, and locals being nice to us. I can't wait to come back.

The good: Excellent food, very tasty and great value for money The bad: the premises is way too small to properly service all the customers, maybe when they first opened it was adequate, but it has far outgrown that now, I was there recently and it was only about 15 minutes to get the food, there was so many people in there we were all rubbing arse cheeks together as we needed to get past, finding a parking spot can be difficult and lots of people just pull up out the front and block cars off, being so close to other people in the shop, all I could smell was bad breath and B.O. It's high time to seek a much larger building to work from and a number system is needed, my name was called out for my order and 3 other people have the same name, so a good idea would be to find a bigger place with much larger parking (corner of Hume Hwy and Cooper St would be a good place if a shop comes up for sale) or a serving window so people can wait for their...

Katik. The busiest kebab shop on Barry road. Where do I start with this. The meat is basic. And if you are Hindu. I would avoid the "lamb". As it tastes more like beef than lamb. I presume they have low or mid level Tek meat. All to say. You can ignore everything that I have just said. For the following reasons. They have lemon juice on the table. The value for money is pretty good. Iskender starting at 16 bucks. With a fully pimped iskender with blasphemous cheese, Muslim crack (sumac) and lemon juice. As Iskender is a very heavy dish. It requires a salad to sort of balance it out. As if you don't have a salad. Otherwise, you will feel fat waddling your arse out the door. In terms of drinks the only non coke amitel product they have is Gazoz. (Translation for the white folk. It's Turkish lemonade or orange lemonade) I could recommend a few better kebab shops. However, for the price point. Katic can not be matched.

Katik Turkish Take Away is a popular fast food takeway restaurant in Campbellfield, Melbourne, beloved by locals, especially on Friday evenings. While they primarily sell kebabs and grilled meats, the authenticity is evident as many Middle Eastern customers frequent the place. Seating is limited with only four tables; most opt for takeout, highlighting the deliciousness of their kebabs. We ordered the Adana Kebab Platter and Lahmacun. Even after finishing, we couldn't resist taking home a chicken kebab. Prices are quite reasonable, typically around fifteen dollars per dish. The establishment isn't impeccably clean, so it's wise to pay attention to your order status amidst the lively atmosphere. Despite this, the staff is remarkably friendly and enthusiastically announce when orders are ready—a touch of fiery hospitality. In conclusion, I'll definitely return to this place whenever possible.
