We went there for dinner and we really enjoyed the calm ambiance of the place. Their food are fairly priced considering the serving size and taste. I personally enjoyed their green tea served in a cast iron kettle and a small japanese ceramic teapot (Can’t believe it’s only 4.5 dollars!) Another personal favorite is the Sakura set which is combination of sushi and sashimis served in small wooden boat plate. :D Would definitely go back to this place to try other food from their menu. I would also love to see them offer ramen in the future to complete the whole japanese food experience.

Kawa Sake Sushi Boat - A small, lovely spot in Yarraville. We tried the Kawa chicken bento box (ordered chicken, got shrimp, but they fixed it with a chicken side later), nasu dengaku (surprisingly tasty eggplant dish), chicken katsu don (super dry without curry sauce and low on salt – had to use soy sauce), veg katsu (best thing we got, really delicious), miso soup (also tasty), and tofu veg roll (pretty good). Our main hiccup was communication; unfortunately, they had trouble understanding us, and we faced some issues there.

Visited Kawa for an early dinner. We ordered the pork gyoza( definitely trying it again), the japanese chicken fried rice( loved the chicken pieces ) and the chicken katsu egg don( sufficient for 2 people; the katsu along with the egg was flavourful and super filling) . The overall service of the staff and the ambience was nice. This place is worth trying if you visiting the yarraville village.

BEWARE - DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT FOOD AND WANT TO BE CHARGED EXTRA!

We came here last Friday night (4/02/2022) at 7:30pm and ordered 4 dishes and 2 drinks - the Sakura sushi boat, 10 pieces of salmon nigiri, passionate delight boat, pork gyoza, a Coke Zero and a lemon lime bitters.

The gyoza and passionate delight boat out came out within a reasonable time. Both were average, nothing spectacular.

From there is went downhill. It was at 8:30pm and the waitress came to check our order for the salmon nigiri and I reminded her that we also ordered the Sakura sushi boat. ‘Apparently’ they had to make a new batch of rice which was why it was taking so long. By this time all tables that had ordered after us had received all their food and we could see that any takeaway orders with sushi were being fulfilled.

20 minutes had passed and it seemed like they had forgotten our Sakura sushi boat when the waitress came back to ‘double check’ our order and said that it will take another 10 minutes.

At 9:15 we still hadn’t received anything and decided to check with the waitress - turns out they hadn’t even made a start on our sushi boat so we told them to cancel the order. At this rate the restaurant would have closed and we still wouldn’t have received it or it would have been faster to order takeaway from another restaurant and have it delivered to us.

We left there disappointed and hungry after paying $92 and was not informed until we questioned the bill, that the prices on the menu were incorrect (they charge an extra 10% for each item) and no apology for them forgetting our order. It seems like forgetting customer’s orders is a frequent occurrence from other reviews.

Overall, one of the worst dining experience. I recommend going to...

The menu was very confusing and resembled the ones at your shopping center food court eateries (pictures and numbers with a small description). When asked if we were ready to order, we replied that we were having trouble with the confusing menu and as the waitress turned her back and walked away, she commented take your time, there was no ''may i suggest something or may i help"'. We thought she was quite rude. The food was very ordinary and not much selection of sushi (salmon or eel), our beef skewers were very overcooked and chewy, the tempura vege was quite greasy with the veg all being in stick form, the gyoza had next to nothing in it and the other couple of dishes were not much chop either. It was all edible but not very enjoyable. The only thing we enjoyed was the sake. Definitely not a Japanese experience we will be going back for again. Very disappointed especially when were there to celebrate our 2nd wedding...

Worst restaurant I’ve been to in 3 years:

All the fried food was overcooked/cooked frozen food and had a heavy tempura batter. Except for the karage chicken, the fillings were dry as the desert sun and tasted like sawdust

Service was absolutely abysmal. They were nice but they forgot half our order and never admitted to the fact they forgot. Took close to 3 hours to make basic sushi dishes as a result. Finally, no discount or apology for the mistake is just poor form.

Finally, on payment, for half the dishes it was already at $20+ per person, which is just overpriced for what you get.

If you are determined to come here, don’t come during a busy period like Friday night, because their service clearly falls apart like a cheap suit.

Do yourself a favour and avoid this place if you want to eat edible food...
