KIKO'S CATCH — Restaurant in Melbourne

I’m not sure about the other recent reviews and if they’re long standing customers. Recently the quality has dropped. New owners have taken over and the standard is no longer there. The chips are dry. The type of potato used is different. The potato cakes used to be fresh and are now cheap frozen ones. We loved coming here once a week and cannot go back. We gave it a couple of months and saw/tasted the slow decline as the new owners took over. The service declined as well. The phone line would be blocked or not working at all. The customer service was poor. Maybe I miss the friendly family owned business vibe it had before and the benefit of being known as a regular. That aside - I wouldn’t be impressed as a new customer. Not to mention changing to cheap packaging. Why introduced plastic bags that leave the food wet and soggy when plastic is being phased out? Well went there for the first and last time. Girl behind counter was very pleasant, but the person who says nothing was interesting to watch. Asked for South Melbourne dim sims and when they were brought out in a plastic container, they were slimy and unappealing. Watched him trying to batter the thin piece of fish, 3 times with a spoon, put on a plastic glove and he had no idea, as the batter was so thin and didn't coat the piece in certain areas. Batter is cheap! Chips, pale and hard. Everything was just wrong, and the whole experience made me feel sick. I could not eat the food as I didn't trust the freshness after seeing what goes on. Okay in the front, in the back, rather unclean. I won't be going back, you just can't put Asians in these places and expect the food to be like it should. Very dear for a bad product. If the young lady hadn't of been there, he could not handle this shop at all. ...

Update 2024 Potato cakes are real crispy, almost all batter and not much potato. Chips are fine. The souvlaki was a bit bland. Fish in batter is again crispy and fresh. Gets busy so best phone order

Grilled fish wasn't really grilled as still had a batter on it which fell of the fish as soon as i picked up it. Batter fish (snapper) wasn't crispy and a bit blonde on colour.
