Koi Dessert Bar @KoiExperiential After enjoying the wonderful dessert creations plus their restaurant in Sydney, they've come to Melbourne!!! The restaurant will open later but the dessert bar will open to the public shortly and I was fortunate to get a taste in the soft opening.
Walking in to the stylish white setting, the display cabinet of 20 odd creations catches your eye and you need to book to grab a table or, a seat at the high tables overlooking the kitchen and team of pastry chefs. Takeaway is also available too.
These desserts are next level, expertly crafted, superb presentation almost like art on a plate, balance of flavours, excellent surrounds and ambience.
Violet - pomegranate, Hibiscus, blackberry, blueberry, almond Love the soft airy cloud like mousse with a refreshing berry and flowery flavour, crunchy biscuit, tempered white chocolate, crunchy outer layer, love the berry hit and slight sweet juice of the pomegranate.
Black Sesame - black sesame, coconut, yuzu, bergamot, almond The next dessert is lot less intense, more muted, and good to follow after a slightly sweeter dessert. 7 layers of yum: Sweet yuzu jelly, coconut meringue, black sesame mousse, coconut cream, almond sponge, black sesame caramel, thin biscuit layer.
Basque Cheesecake Matcha Rose: Japanese matcha mascapone infused with rose, served on a decadent burnt cheesecake.
I love Basque Cheesecake and this was unbelievable. So light, not all that cakey or cheesy, a slight burntness for extra flavour that lingers on the palette, ultra airy and creamy mascapone infused with matcha which shines through, the matcha crumb for an extra hit and the rose for this lovely floral tone to contrast against the creaminess, this is a knock-out dessert and easily the best...

Ordered the Earl Grey cake for my wife's birthday after seeing a beautiful version advertised on Koi Dessert Bar’s website. Unfortunately, the cake I received looked nothing like what was shown online.
The advertised cake had a well-thought-out butterfly theme, elegant textured sides, and was topped with generous fresh fruit and petals. What I got was a much plainer version—no butterfly, no decorative elements, fewer fruits, and overall, lacking any distinctive presentation. It looked like something I could have bought from an average bakery, not what I'd expect from a premium dessert shop charging $90.
I raised my concern with the staff at pickup. The cashier kindly checked with the chef, who claimed the cake was made according to a photo sent by their manager in Sydney. I found this explanation unacceptable—as a customer, I placed an order based on what was advertised online, not on internal reference photos. The chef never came out to speak with me directly, and the staff suggested I contact the Sydney manager myself. They tried calling but got no answer, and no further resolution was offered. I eventually left feeling extremely disappointed.
For a shop with such a strong reputation, I expected better standards—not just in cake presentation, but in how they handle customer concerns.
If you ask me: I’m unlikely to return to Koi Dessert Bar. I wouldn’t recommend it to...
Read moreVisited for the limited spring high tea session which was only available last week. Waited a few minutes after the reservation time but once seated drink orders were immediately taken and the food was served shortly after. The high tea included six petit desserts, three savoury bites and unlimited coffee and tea from the list. The savoury bites included a chicken & mushroom pie, cheddar & thyme madeleine, and a toasted sourdough topped with tomato, onion and cheese; favourite was the sourdough but the pie and madeleine were also pretty good. As for the desserts, all of them besides the 'Dubai Dream' cake contained different elements of fruit which I enjoyed a lot. The combination of textures and flavours worked well in general; well balanced and not too sweet. The least favourite was the macaron; it was still good but just lacked the strawberry flavour. Favourite was the 'Onyx' which has a subtle but refreshing herb and a nice citrus flavour to pair with the sweet apple. Coffee was decent and the teas I tried (genmaicha, serenity herbal tea and earl grey) were strong and fragrant. Overall a great high tea experience; although it was a bit pricey, everything was tasty and the desserts were delicate and well crafted; service was also good with friendly staffs who checked in several times with us to see if we needed...
