La Glanz Restaurant in Noble Park Visited on 9/7/2021
The name is definitely not Malay, and therefore my wife and I nearly walked away until we saw some men who looked like Malays were outside chatting.
I am still wondering whether it is a Cafe or restaurant. The stunning red highlight wall and ambience are OK to make it a restaurant, but the way the food is served very much like a hawker stall or warung in Malaysia.
The boss lady and staff are friendly, the display of food in baine marie is passable, the curries and sambal taste good. The positives end here.
The price is higher than comparable restaurants / cafes I have been to. When the food is brought to the table, I am not very impressed by the presentation. Everything, two meats and one vegetable with rice, an egg, sambal, and ikan bilis, buries the poor coconut rice completely. The green plate plate is too small, and the generous gravies makes it difficult to identify the the different components and flavours.
To remedy this, a bigger oval shape plate, which probably costs a dollar two more, will improve the presentation and change my perception.
The beef and egg plant pieces are cut too small, and the redang beef can be cooked to a bit more tender.
I have no more room for the kuihs. They are not made inhouse, but from an external supplier.
In short, the quality and presentation are very much like "backhome" cafe or food court.
However, on the positive note, the various curries and gravies are flavoursome, and the...
Read moreI came here for the first time today with my friend to celebrate his farewell becoz he is very smart & helpful in our job. The food is delicious but im quite surprised with the cost of $100.98. We ordered two of this plate, two of this take away container $27 (beef rendang $17, the pete sambal $10) and 1x ice lemon tea so that means we paid around $73.98 for two of these plates or $37 per plate?!?!? It is very expensive i always wonder if its becoz i look Chinese as People have this misconception to think Chinese rich but im not pure Chinese and im sure not all Chinese are rich. Anyway i paid for it as i do not want to ruin my friend's mood although he was shocked to find the price as he finally asked how much and he guessed it as $44 for the two plates and i said no its $100.98 and so he is aware its around $35 more per plate so he wanted to pay me back but i didnt want. I always believe in life God is fair and what comes around goes around. Either way i love the service as the two hijab ladies are very kind and nice to us. Will i return there again?Never in a Million years. I will not return and will choose Warong Mummy at Springvale as the price is more sensible. Thank you for the foods as it...
Read moreOrdered Mixed rice (Nasi campur - Bain marie), Nasi lemak with beef rendang, Teh tarik, 1 serve of Apam balik, and 5 pieces of Curry puff for dinner on Wednesday. Total 46.00 AUD. There is no surcharge for Card payments.
The Nasi lemak with beef rendang's rice was not very fragrant for Nasi Lemak, but came with the usual accompaniments (peanuts, sambal, and anchovies). I asked for extra curry sauce, which they were happy to provide. The Beef rendang was tender and the serving size was generous. However the taste needed to develop more. We took home some leftover Beef rendang, and when we had it 24 hours later, the rendang was more flavorful!
The Mixed rice came with Black beef ribs and Tempeh stir fry. The Beef ribs were the highlight of my meal. The meat was tender and came off the bone easily. The meat was also rich in flavor, and coated in sticky and savory sweet sauce. The flavors were nicely balanced. The Tempeh stir fry has a nice bite to it. Personally I prefer larger chunks. The taste was alright. I also asked for some curry sauce poured over the rice, which again they were happy to provide.
The staff were very friendly, attentive, and helpful. Recommended for Hawker style...
