Little Sparrow Northland — Restaurant in Melbourne

Me and my partener came for a coffee and coissant. The coffee was great and food was good, its just the older lady with the short brown hair was extremely rude to me when i was ordering. She acts like she doesn't want to be there and looks like she is sucking on a lemon. She kept getting my order wrong, it's like she wasn't listening to me at all or just didn't care? She was very sarcastic and rude, bad attitude. All the other staff working there are lovely and respectful, helpful and friendly. We saw her conduct herslef in this way with all the people in front of us in line too. When me and my partner observed the older lady with the short brown hair interact with the other staff members we felt really bad for her colleagues, she was talking down to them being mean and she was creating a really bad vibe for the other staff members and the customers too. Atmosphere was off because of this but the coffee was great. The girl who made us coffee kept apologising for the rude lady's behaviour and she looked embarrassed. When you buy a cake, seated in a cafe, you expect it to be on a plate. However we got it in a cardboard box because they only serve takeaway after 7pm. They close at 7.30 pm. If I had known the thing was going to be difficult to eat, while in a narrow box with sides twice as high as the cake itself and box flaps to make it even higher, I would have not ordered it. The server did not tell me there was a 7pm cut off and that they only sell food in boxes after this time. Not a mention! She took my $19 for the cake and iced chocolate, and we only found out about this 7pm thing when she brought over the cake after we sat down.

By the way, $19 is too much for a day worn cake and a well below par iced chocolate. We had been walking around a lot and wanted to relax and enjoy a treat.

The cafe is more expensive than average, but there's nothing special about the place I could detect, especially the iced chocolates.

They have a good range of gluten free cakes though.

Gluten free fare is important to us, but unfortunately here is too pricey and the server tricked us or was negligent. Not sure which.

I went to little sparrow Northland for a coffee on Friday 30/06/2025 ( Friday) evening around 5pm. Customer service was very poor. One staff who seemed like supervisor was giving instruction to one staff ( girl) and he completely ignored us for more than 5-6 minutes. I waited for more than 5 minutes to order coffee but he completely ignored and keep instructing one Girl ( staff) showing coffee machine.

It was not busy as well. I was the only one waiting to order the coffee.

I turned around and then he tried to say something but it was too late to attend someone waiting to order coffee.

Hope management team will give some training to those staff about customer service and respect. I don’t think I would return again in Northland if same staff is...
