I used to love this cafe, but things seemed to have gone a bit downhill lately. I recently ordered a toasted chicken and avocado focaccia when dining in, which was toasted and presented to me very burnt on both top and bottom of focaccia. I understand that it is a tough trading environment for small businesses, but when I took a mouthful of the food - I decided that I would not even serve this to my worst enemy, it was so burnt, and it was unacceptable for me to be paying and eating food like this in a cafe. I approached the waitress and given that I ordered the last foccacia of this type on display, I asked whether it could be replaced by a different foccacia with different fillings (eg. chicken mustard). That wasn't a problem - in fact the waitress said that the chef "found" another focaccia in the kitchen with the same fillings, and promised to only lightly toast it. The second focaccia was obviously better, as seen in my photos. Although it is disappointing that the burnt nature of the focaccia was not acknowledged by staff (rather it was implied that I was being "fussy") and staff thought to be acceptable for the focaccia to be given to me like this (who knows whether they put the same original fillings in a new focaccia bun - not sure how they "found" a new focaccia when there were none left on display???).
I truly hope that this cafe lifts their game as I used to enjoy...
Read moreThe experience started with problems. The eftpos machine didn't work, which is nobody's fault, but my very first exchange with anyone at this cafe started with an apathetic "there's nothing I can do" attitude. It got worse from there.
The coffee came out, minus the hot milk I had ordered to go with it. I could have lived with that, but it means the staff don't listen. For the brief moment I could smell it, the coffee smelled like the horrible, mediocre, watery fare typical of this entire district, having no resemblance to real espresso.
I never got to taste it, because the extremely careless teenage waiter dropped it on the table precisely because he was so totally uncaring. Yes, accidents happen, but there was coffee and big chunks of broken glass everywhere, but no apology. I could have been badly cut.
I went inside to get a refund but another sullen, inarticulate teenager mumbled something I couldn't hear. Someone else had to handle the actual refund, and this person demanded that I explain myself. Still no apology.
Everything about this experimental visit was a disaster. Apart from the specifics of this incident, teenagers are always useless and their presence is a bad sign in any cafe. Of course the music...
Read moreWent on a nice little road trip today and stopped by a very sweet looking cafe! The atmosphere and ambience were great, enjoyable views through large windows and really nice dining chairs and tables.
I got the ‘Mmm Benedict’ which includes the hollandaise sauce, poached eggs, pulled pork and hash brown. It’s great because it’s quite filling and only for $22 it’s on the cheaper end in comparison to other brunch places. Only downside was that the hollandaise sauce was sour and it’s not a gobsmacking dish itself.
The waiter that served me was not as welcoming as other staff from other cafes have been. Just ordered my food at the counter. No smile, no good morning. Even when delivering the plate of food, I said thank you just to hear no response back. He just put the plate down and left. I understand that people can have bad days and it can get busy but hospitality also goes together with good customer service. I can only hope they can improve with this.
All in all, nothing special. Unfortunately, won’t...
