Mocha Jo's Cafe & Brunch | Glen Waverley — Restaurant in Melbourne

I recently visited Mocca Joes in Glen Waverley, and unfortunately, my dining experience left much to be desired. I had high hopes for a satisfying meal, but unfortunately, the food fell short of my expectations.

For my main course, I ordered the chicken parmigiana. To my disappointment, the chicken was overcooked and dry, lacking the juiciness that is expected from a good parmigiana. Additionally, the dish was not saucy enough, which further contributed to its lack of flavour. It's a shame that such a classic dish was executed poorly.

As for my side dish, I opted for the lobster roll. Regrettably, it arrived cold, which took away from the enjoyment of the dish. Furthermore, the roll lacked the buttery richness that is typically associated with a good lobster roll. The bun could have been toasted for a more pleasing texture, and a sprinkle of dill on top would have added a fresh and aromatic touch.

Moving on to dessert, I ordered the lava cake. Sadly, it was one of the driest cakes I have ever encountered. The lack of moisture made it difficult to savour, and it left me longing for a more indulgent and decadent experience. A lava cake should be rich, gooey, and melt-in-your-mouth, but this one fell short on all accounts.

On a positive note, the service at Mocca Joes was friendly. However, it was challenging to get the attention of the staff when needed, which led to some frustration. While their demeanour was pleasant, the lack of promptness and attentiveness hindered the overall dining experience.

In terms of pricing, I found Mocca Joes to be reasonable. However, given the disappointing quality of the food, I can not see myself returning to this establishment. While the prices may be fair, the lacklustre dishes and subpar dessert overshadow any perceived value. I usually go to Mocha Jo’s cafe daily and spend about $10.50 to buy a coffee and a croissant. About $73.50 a week. I have been visiting this restaurant almost daily for seventeen years. Yearly it amounts to $3,832.50, but more than that because sometimes I have a meal. I supported Mocha Jo’s daily throughout the past three months of lock-downs from August to November 2021 and even bought hot dogs on the nature strip when they could not trade under normal circumstances inside the restaurant. Now almost 80% are fully vaccinated and supposedly protected against the virus, according to what we are told by the media. I was turned away because I am un-vaccinated. The waiter whom told me to leave is the guy second from the left on their website photograph. If the vaccine does not protect people from un-vaccinated customers that are healthy then there is probably no need for it. So I won’t support this business owner any longer.

It may be that the owner wants to stay in business but the sad thing for him of course is that this vaccine he himself must have taken to remain open could cause him blood clots, heart inflammation, brain fog, the list goes on and on in terms of vaccine side-effects. That is the reason people choose not to get vaccinated, not because they do not want to follow governmental rules and regulations.

And to the owner; don't care so much about Google Ratings, care about your health instead because if you are dead and gone, who is going to look after...

Really disappointed unfortunately! First time coming back since pre-covid and the quality of the food and ingredients has dropped dramatically. I understand having to cut costs and what not due to effects of covid but the food is no where near the quality it used to be. The burger patty was like a frozen patty from Woolworths with the texture and taste and the topping tasted cheap especially the cheese. For $22 you expect at least a decent patty! The chicken burger was extremely dry and overly sweet with the slaw. The calamari also tasted like frozen calamari you could buy yourself and had an extremely heavily floured coating on them that tasted manufactured. The chips are exactly the same as the ones 10m across the road at Grill’d but they’re probably much cheaper there and there’s much better burgers to go along with them. Absolute rip off for the price! The sticky date pudding was ok but even that was just average and dowsed in butterscotch. The prices are no longer justified with the quality they’re putting out and it’s sad to see since I’ve been coming here for over 15 years that they’ve dropped the quality so drastically. I’ve never posted a negative review before but I wanted to this time so that the owners can please see this and make a change as it’s a real shame what’s happened. However I definitely won’t be coming back anytime soon now...
